The keynote speaker at Monday's kickoff breakfast at the American Football Coaches Association convention inside the Opryland Hotel, Fulmer provided listeners with a condensed version of his life the previous 13 months.

"To tell you how quickly things can change and life can change, In December (2007), we won the Eastern Division championship, the first week of December. The second week of December, we played LSU, the eventual national champions, for the championship," Fulmer said. "They did a great job, but we're two or three minutes away from winning that ballgame. January, we won our bowl game for our 10th win, signed a seven-year contract in June. In July, had my first grandson. You talk about an unbelievable blessing.

"In August, I was inducted into the Knoxville Hall of Fame. In October, I won my 150th game with 48 (49) losses at the time. And November, I got fired. Now that's a heck of a year in anybody's book. Usually when you get fired, you get run out of town. They had a day for me, and I got carried off the field."

Sour grapes.

no mention of 2 losing seasons in four years or the fact that there were more bama fans than tennessee in Neyland this year. I guess that slipped his mind.

I wish he would just come out and say it....all I really wanted to do is beat Neyland's record....and it doesn't bother me at all that it was going to take four 5 win seasons to do it!

excellent point. He's sure trying to paint the picture that he was a beloved coach that was still playing for championships. I love the fact that he quotes his own overall record, but neglects to mention the team's record last year.

He is constantly whining about "almost" making it last year and then getting fired this year. He has an excuse for each and every year for the last ten. One play this game, 3 minutes this game and not enough magic dust in the last game. Enough my man.

"It's one of those things that you make an adjustment and you've got to go on. I can't say if I had my druthers or whatever, but my life's not destroyed or anything like that by it," Fulmer said of being out of college football for the first time since high school 40 years ago. "I'm looking forward to staying out there in the public and if good things happen again, I may coach again with the right place."

Fulmer said he could join the business of former player, Mike West -- a venture he called "a multi-faceted company is how to put it as much as anything. It's a mergers and acquisitions company, real estate, majority owner kind of thing."

"I've talked to a good number of people, some that have asked me, that pay me to come there and kind of critique their situation," Fulmer said. "Some I just want to visit. To grow professionally, if I coach again or if I don't, just from an organizational standpoint. Many of these coaches, like myself, you manage a big business, and you're a CEO and have to keep those kinds of things in mind. The more you can learn, the better.

"I've talked to Oklahoma, I've talked to Ohio State. Those two are for sure that I'll go spend time with. There are several, like I said, that have asked me to come and help them out, look and see. Some can afford to pay me, some probably can't. But it's not about the money, it's about the experience."

I bet that got Jimmy Sexton's attention.

Makes you wonder about Vickie's spending habits.

In the end, when a man feels like he has to validate his worth in a speech it usually means he is angry, scared or both.

I guess anyone can read what they want in those statements. Was any of it not true? The piling on of an ex-coach is getting ridiculous

So phil runs his mouth and no one here is supposed to comment? You can say that we are reading what they want into that statement, but its pretty clear what he was saying.

Half true PJ. That is my complaint.

It seems as though somewhere in the mix he should mention the fact that championships were important, and he wasn't winning them anymore.

Just the same old passive crap. "I don't really know what happened. I mean we were three and six, but I'm a darn good coach."

I think we're tired of hearing someone who had total control of the football program at UT sounding like a victim. Man up!

I'm so glad that guy is gone...

If I'm describing my past 13 months to a group of my peers, I doubt I mention the negatives in my performance. Plus, I doubt there were people at the American Football Coaches Association convention who didn't have an idea of what happened the last few months. It's just basic human nature to touch the high points during something like that.

You dont see his comments as taking a shot at the administration?

i couldn't care less. He's telling his story, everyone in the country that gets fired tells his story over and over and over. Who cares? He's getting 6 million to sit there and do as little or as much as he wants. I'm tired of hearing about it. Last time I checked, TCHFCATUTK was named Lane Kiffin. And he's a proud papa. Let's talk about him.

no, I view it as a guy giving a speech and listing the highs of the last year and not a time to get into the negatives of your career. You guys want something that he's never going to say in that setting. You think any other coach wouldn't say the exact same in his situation?

He did more than just "touch the high points"... he stretched the truth. Talking about SEC East "championships" and winning a 10th game (as though winning 10 games is anything special when you played 14) and mentioning the fact that we played the eventual national champion last year. Hey Phil... we played the eventual national champion this year (the last 3 years), also. What does that have to with the price of tea in China?
