Well, one of the INTs was due to Staley slipping while making his cut. The pass was leading him and, when he wasn't there, it went straight to the defender. The three that were tipped up and picked off weren't great passes, even though they hit Kitselman in the hands and probably should've been caught. Both of them in the MS St game were in traffic with a defender right there on him, which increases the level of difficulty( especially in a hostile environment. It seems a bit of a stretch to me to put those on Pope. Brazzell was blasted last season for his dropped passes and Pope was blamed for lack of development. Now that Brazzell is catching pretty much anything he touches, neither he nor Pope seem to be getting enough credit for the turnaround.I understand that they are not going to catch EVERY pass. But this problem was stimming during preseason camp. There were days were the Wideouts barely caught a ball. We are still having these issues. Its not like they are getting bad passes and dropping them, no they are getting passes dropped in the bucket, at their face mask, etc. THAT is coaching and preparation. Which falls on Pope.
FWIW, I was at the game in Starkville. The two interceptions were incredibly frustrating. I would place most of the blame on Kitselman as they were catchable balls. I do believe both passes were thrown a little high and with some zip as they were into somewhat tight windows, so it is hard to go full scorched earth from the comfort of the metal bleachers I was in. Matthews' dropped TD pass was completely inexplicable as the pass was pretty close to perfect. Sometimes, receivers just lose focus.I understand that they are not going to catch EVERY pass. And they're playing better than any Tennessee offensive line in 20 years. You guys can't use this as a "gotcha" anymore. It's over. Elarbee is a great o line coach and recruiter. Give it up.Well it did take 5 years to get a offensive lineman that was recruited out of high school to start a game. Fact
There can be some level of argument made about 4 of these heading in to this year, but I question if anyone has watched the Vols since Heupel took over if they're questioning the development of our corners.1. Ellerbee can't recruit or develop
2. We should look at getting rid of Kelsey Pope
3. Willie isn't cutting it in recruitment or development
4. Golesh was the source of our creativity
5. Losing Nico was devastating
I must say that five games into this season has me ecstatic from what we thought we would be to who we are now.
Happy bye week everybody
