The real issue is they had a chance to fix it with video and still missed it.Saw that last night. It’s a fast game and judgement calls are going to happen, but man, these guys have documented struggles.
I would never reveal a name, but I have a good friend that is on an SEC crew and has been involved in a couple of doozies the past few years. He says they need to enhance replay and add a Sky Judge in the booth to speed up reviews and catch mistakes.
Except, they couldn’t fix it with replay. Forward progress isn’t reviewable which is dumb. They’ll let a questionable fumble or scoop and score play out so they can review it, but they stop a 4th and goal from the 1 and by rule can’t fix it.The real issue is they had a chance to fix it with video and still missed it.
all plays should be reviewable called on field or not....simple check. 5 monitorsExcept, they couldn’t fix it with replay. Forward progress isn’t reviewable which is dumb. Forward progress my a$$. Titans I’m an official I am blowing the whistle once forward progress is stopped, I’m not waiting till the ball crosses the goal line. Also he never stopped moving forward and was pumping his feet and Fant was pulling him as well which is legal also now. Years past you couldn’t pull or push a player into end zone, this year you can that’s why they be pushing with the rugby style pile ups and lineman moving the pile. The blatantly missed the call for whatever reason. But also it was inexcusable for our defense to allow 600 yards of offense when Purdue was missing it top 2 WR’s and to a walk on QB. It shouldn’t have never came down to that one play, but it did and refs made sure they would make sure everyone knew that they was bigger than the game itself. The ACC won’t do nothing to this crew as the ACC along with everyone else grossed them SEC country enjoyed the SEC losing. I’m afraid we haven’t seen the last of calls like this test if the bowl season that involves SEC teams.Except, they couldn’t fix it with replay. Forward progress isn’t reviewable which is dumb. Exactly the kind of thing that a Sky Judge with the benefit of replay should be able to call for Unsportsmanlike Conduct.all plays should be reviewable called on field or not....simple check. 5 monitors
had the Purdue player who was walking and then went down after the questionable catch the play ruled a catch on the field Tennessee lines up gets the play off but the Purdue perfectly fine goes to a knee injury timeout then ready to put ball in play they decide to review it.
Subjective call but if I saw a player walking to the LOS and all of a sudden takes a knee I throw a delay of game flag.
I just made a new thread about that — that’s not how I interpreted the rule book. Look at my new thread and see if it changes your mind. I’m genuinely interested to understand how that isn’t reviewable, when it is clearly stated in the rules that it is reviewable.Except, they couldn’t fix it with replay. The whistle isn't the end-all-be-all. Where the ref spots the end of the play is what counts even if the whistle is late.
The issue is why he ruled forward progress had stopped when it hadn't, regardless of when he blew the whistle.
There’s obviously an issue of proclaiming “I ruled forward progress had stopped but didn’t blow my whistle” that seems odd to me.
What possible explanation exists for that?
You’re wrong.Forward progress isn't reviewable, but the spot of the ball at the point that forward progress is stopped is. So the case being made is that the ref ruled forward progress dead before Wright stretched the ball out.
There are several reasons it might have happened. Maybe the whistle slipped out of his mouth. I don't know, and I'm simply saying it doesn't matter. What matters is that he made a bad call, not how long it took him to blow the whistle upon making the bad call.
If your gonna make the calls be efficient AND consistent with them. Tillman was held right before the end of regulation that would’ve probably ended the game. The better team didn’t win yesterday and the REFS had a lot to do with it. The punt return where Velus was horse collared had 2 personal fouls !!! POSSIBLY helmet to helmet contact that they would’ve had to decide on. But the defensive player came flying in after he was down. Did Purdue ever get a penalty on them for holding on the Oline ? And I remember just 1 call on there Db’s on the end zone interference. The ACC refs and conference are nothing but a 2nd cousin to Big Uncle SEC.!!! They have no business calling SEC bowl games and if I was a Vol fan. I wouldn’t be wasting my time going to a bowl game that the ACC refs are gonna call.!Saw that last night.
