It seems like Texas is one of the most universally hated schools in the nation. Maybe it's just me.
Go spend a little time in Texas and listen to them talk about the Longhorns and the Cowboys for 15 minutes and you will hate them as much as I do too. Nobody knows anything about their teams, its just blind Texas love cause they think everything Texas is better than everything else. Worst fans in America tied with California football fans (USC & UCLA).

Don't think it's just you. A lot of Texas fans have that "we're Texas and we have more money than you and sooner or later we'll get our way" attitude. Even the ones who don't say it still think it, because, well, they really do have more money than almost anyone (at least, among schools who are dedicated to college athletics). They just can't help themselves. Add that to the fervent "Don't Mess With Texas" / "everything is bigger in Texas" attitude, and you get a unique mix of cultish loyalty and expectation that's hard to top but also hard to put up with. The cult of Texas is real. I mean, not a real cult, but a real pride and obsession with the idea of Texas as the biggest and the best, no matter what. I think that rubs a lot of folks from all walks of life (and all conferences) the wrong way.

That plus the "we will get our way" reputation, what with the Longhorn Network, the PAC10 dalliance, the conference manipulation, the reputation of killing off the Big 8, Big 12, etc. I think that's created a universally accepted perception of Texas as difficult by many fans outside the Texas bubble.

Facts that I like to throw out to Texas fans.

  • Tennessee statehood: 7/1/1796
    • University of Tennessee founded 8/10/1794
  • Texas statehood: 12/29/1845 (49 years later)
    • University of Texas founded 8/15/1883 (49 years later)
  • Alaska: 665,384 mi2 total area
  • Texas: 268,596 mi2 total area
    • Two Texas + New Mexico (121,590 mi2) + Connecticut (5,543 mi2) + 1,059 mi2 remaining.
    • Rhode Island is 1,545 mi2 so there would be 486 mi2 over.

I'm all for getting spicy on social media for the new guys but what is this lazy Photoshop? C'mon now, Tennessee's media team is one of the best. We gotta represent.

The jumbled mess of letters on the bottoms of the label tells me this was an AI image from text input.
It can get close to what you want, but when you start pressing the AI for improved details, the results get worse and more distorted.
AI image creation is terrible with letters, fingers, and teeth.

I’ve yet to find a beer I’m not fond of.
My Father in Law who is a tee-totaler bought me a sixpack of a beer with chili peppers in it. Drank half and left the rest for someone else to indulge. Only beer to date I didn't care for one iota.

I used to live in Texas. Now, understand, every frog praises its own pond. But Texans brag a bit too much, about too much. It's true Bamas, Floridans, Michgans, even Tennesseans, and Ohioians are arrogant. But Texans, well, the state is misspelled, it should be Arrogantexas. It's that bad.

It goes back to Cotton Bowl 1950 when The General took his team to Dallas. Texas band playing “The Eyes of Texas Are On You” pregame and Neyland told his team the band would be playing “The Tennessee Waltz” after the game. Victorious Vols flew back to Knoxville wearing ten gallon hats.

All posts above re Texas arrogance are spot on. They will be most despised school in SEC within two years. HORNS DOWN!!

It will quickly become more obvious once they are in the SEC. They will march in and throw their weight around expecting to run the place on day 1.

A famous quote from their former AD "We are the Joneses"

Texas may be the most-hated program in the conference very soon, but never underestimate the power of bigger money interests to flock together and tilt things in their own favor. Texas may attract heavyweight programs to push as a voting bloc. We could be a part of the Big Money SEC bloc, but we could also be on the outside due to our more direct competition with UGA and Bama.

Texas has several peer competitors in the SEC. They only had OK in the Big12. Expect them to entice the "Have's" to give them everything they want in a package deal. We might be surprised how easy it is for them to control the conference with a few allies voting with them on some matters.

I live in Austin, well said.

They don't always win but they do always think they are the best because of size and money.

Personally I love Texas. It’s not even remotely close to being as great as Tennessee, but it is fantastic.

I also generally don’t mind the Longhorns. A&M can get a bit weird sometimes. But overall, these folks are infinitely better than anything in the states of Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky, South Carolina, Arkansas, Missouri (especially), Oklahoma, or Louisiana.

Of course, I also think the rest of the SEC other than Tennessee can get bent.

Go Vols!

My sister-in-law lives in Texas. She's a big Tennessee fan. She says Texas believes they will come in and dictate everything that happens in the SEC. Their fans are that arrogant and determined to get their way. Oh and Horns down will not be allowed according to Texas fans.
