There is no Spring transfer portal.

Most of you know this but for those that don't there is no 2nd transfer portal window. If Joey gets another year, but the ruling comes after the portal closes he is stuck at Tennessee no matter what. for this reason I think they should go after a lower rated QB for depth, and spend the big bucks on D. We made the playoff's with Nico because our D was good, and I can promise you G-Mac right now is better than Nico was in 2024, I'm willing to bet Brandon is also.

they are chasing QBs that have a good chance at competing for the starting job, not lower level backup types.

At some point-Heupel is going to have to start actually turn a QB he has recruited and groomed loose.

He kept Nico with the training wheels on last year out of necessity.

I dunno how much we are paying GMac and Brandon, but I'm gonna wager they got deals on par with Nicos if not more (inflation and all).

That's a lot of money to leave sitting on the bench AND go out and get a top flight transfer QB.

Eventually, we are going to stop getting QB recruits and if the transfer route is the way we wanna go then that's fine. Doing both though is gonna lead to a disaster.

If GMac after a year in the system cannot beat out a transfer G5 QB coming into the mix in January-that is a problem.

I don't believe he's stuck at TN if the ruling comes later, he will just have to hope he gets a look in the NFL. I'd be shocked if Heupel brought him back either way. Sounds like Heupel is going big at QB this cycle. I think if Joey gets another year, he hits the portal. Just a hunch

not a ruling. NCAA has till tomorrow to respond to the lawsuit.
They could say sure go ahead we don't care any more haha
but what will probably happen is the NCAA will still hold firm, TN lawyers will file paperwork and some judge will give them an injunction allowing TN to proceed because the case probably won't be heard till after the season starts or at this point heard at all.
I'm just going to guess that Joey, CJH, White and the lawyers all discussed this before Joey added his name to the lawsuit.

Heupel needs to invest in defense. If he can roll into '26 with JA, GMac, and Faizon, that's the best option. If not JA, then yes...gotta go after a QB1/2 in the portal.

I think as long as the system stays the way it is, teams are going to start spending the big money on experienced QB's that fits their system and maybe recruit high 3* QB's with upside that they can potential develop for 2yrs to see if he can run the offense. If he's not ready you haven't spent a whole lot of $$ and just go grab another experience QB from the portal

JA came in not being a 5* or recruited and did well under CJH. If our Defense was like last year we'd be in the CFP now but they couldn't get off the field or make the stops to keep the momentum going.

I think we'll spend money on 5* defense and 5* Oline/WR guys that may not be year one starters but get rotated in to play to balance the depth and eventually move into starter roles. You don't rotate QB's in.

they are neither in Nico area but both are over 7 figures.. I don't see how they can afford to pay someone else 4-5 million, which the top guys in portal can demand, without ignoring a lot of other needs.. Next few weeks should be telling..

Joey won’t be stuck here.If there is no ruling before the portal closes we take a QB in some form or fashion.Joey hits the portal then it’s wait and see for him.My opinion there is now way the same judge should rule differently.Unless there is some kind of corruption involved.

after the bowl game, I anticipate Joey will announce portal or NFL..

He should portal even if the court clears him to play in 2026 so he can assess his market value after the year he had..

I'm willing to bet almost anything that JA will not be here in the Spring. I could be wrong, but I'll be shocked.

I feel confident we spend big on defense as well. Offense is Heupel's baby, he won't get blind sided again at the QB position. We may or may not get a tier 1 QB, but I fully expect him to spend more than 1.2 million on a portal QB.

In theory, can't he withdraw from the portal and return to UT if he isn't happy with the offers? Seems like a no-brainer to enter the portal.
