And I think the 2012 has what it takes to get the job done..

1st way is to have a team built like Alabama- Great defense, great running game and a solid QB with great depth at every position.. 06 gators, 07 lsu, 09-11 bama

2nd way you win is you have a team built on a few superstars at key spots(QB,Wr,DT) or something like that combined with a defense that holds their own and forces turnovers- 08 gators i would say that they had a mix of both- 10' auburn- cam,fairley,dyer...

We fall under the second way to win with Bray, hunter, rogers and hopefully patterson and what i think could be a top 20 defense.

People can flame away but nobody will have a better mix of players on offense and anything can happen if we get a shot in atlanta, one thing i know for sure is im not scared of any sec offense next season

You missed one key ingredient. They have to learn how to win. That's the biggest step in building the culture of winning. 2012 could be the year they learn to win again but it will be a process rather than an event.

1 and 2 sound the same. I don't think any of us were afraid of Ky's offense last yr either, but it beat us. We need a solid run game. With our wr's a gun slinging qb we should be able to catch the d slipping and bust some good runs. Hopefully Bray has been watching film and can make some reads to audible when needed. We've got some play makers on both sides, but if our d could be sluggish learning the 3-4 which seems to be what were going to. We did recruit players to fit it, but we need strength and knowledge that most freshmen don't have. we did compete ok against ga, sc and fla to give me hopes for next yr. I can see is taking the east, but vandy and ky competed too well against us to say its a given. The anticipation drives me crazy, but all we can do is wait and hope like hell this is the yr. Were due, that's for sure

It's a "line of scrimmage" league, if you're good up front on both sides of the ball then you can compete with anybody anywhere.

TN this year needs to find a pass rush from the D front and some semblance of a running game to compete for a championship, it all starts up front.

1. line of scrimmage. people keep getting juiced about a qb and a couple wr and they continue to ignore that they get manhandled up front. a wr playing qb for kentucky had more yards rushing against tennessee than any tennessee rusher had in any game last season. tennessee is the only school on florida's schedule (outside of a cupcake) that never laid a hand on john brantley. damn near every other game, brantley was beaten to a pulp

2. hunter did not get a chance to show it last season, because he was injured. however, bray and rogers are not superstars. they aren't close to superstars. if they were superstars, they would have put up more than 7 against kentucky.

3. special teams. brandon james, javier arenas, honey badger. blocking kicks, covering kicks, having kickers and punters.

tennessee doesn't compare in any way, shape or form to any of those teams. not even close. unless there are players who jump up a significant level and show something they haven't shown before, the original post is off the charts insane.

Running game? When u have the 3 1st Round WR's? As long as the pass blocking keeps on improving the only running game we need is enough to keep the defense honest. We already have an OC who has had success with the air raid type of offense. I will be majorly disappointed if we don't air it out at least 40-45 times a game.

Yes, a semblance of a running game, gotta have it, the passing game should be good, but it alone won't win a title, there hasn't been a team in my lifetime win the SEC without some balance.

I agree that 2012 should be a vast improvement for Dooley and Co; however, one thing the OP didn't mention is Special Teams. Specifically, field goals, extra points, and punting. Kick-offs hasn't been too bad. That aspect of the game has ABSOLUTELY cost UT more games in the last two years than any other program. I hope Palardy can get it together this year, but we can't continue to depend on him late if he can't get the job done. JMO....

Bullock or Brodus, IMO. Give Brodus a scholly and get him in the weight room consistently with the team. I'm over Palardy.

1. Our pass blocking was fine last year.

2. Da'Rick Rogers had 1000+ yards and 9 TDs last year on an offense with no run game and no other weapons. He's a damn good player. Anyone who judges a player completely based off of one game is an idiot.

3. Young wasn't too bad, and the guys we are bringing in will get opportunities. Regardless, consistently good special teams play is enough to win games. You don't have to bust big plays every game, just play consistently well.

4. While i agree with your final opinion that we are in no way shap eor form ready to win the SEC or maybe even the East, you certainly didn't back up the opinion with very good facts.

5. Shut up, Gator.

I couldnt agree more. Players like Brantley, Burton, and Deboze are real star. And no one controls the line of scrimmage like Powell, Easley, and Floyd. Those are players that win division titles...... wait a minute. I think someone forgot their offense was about 75th overall last year. Good try though.

Bray damn near had more passing yards than both of gator qb's. Some people are just blind to facts.

There have been many instances where I have seen you make good points on here that are logical and you get flamed for them. This is not one of those times. The comment about Rogers is a bit transparent. He had one really bad game when the qb was clearly not on his game either. He also faced double teams the whole season and still had over 1,000 yards. Does he need to grow up some? Maybe, I don't know him personally. But if you can't see that he has what it takes to be an elite receiver in this conference, then to me it seems more like you can't stand the fact that Messchamp doesn't have any one player on the roster that is capable of making plays like he can. That's my two cents. And tell your coach to tuck his shirt in. He's a grown man for crying out loud.
