They've hit me. The plague of red rings has struck my house. Count me alongside the countless thousands whose XBox 360's have gone kaput for no reason. Damn it. Anybody else here been hit by the red rings?

My buying a core system caused a problem with the warranty, too. I can only replace it with another core. That means I'll have to drop ANOTHER $100 on a hard drive. At this point... Screw it, I'm waiting for the PlayStation 3 and I'll probably sell all my 360 games.

Yeah. A crazy amount of them have been having hard drive failures. Microsoft is trying to cover it up, saying only 3-5% of owners have been experiencing troubles, but it has been a lot more. I have been reading articles on IGN where they looked into the issue. They polled IGN's message boards, picked up a few hundred responses and found a substantially higher percentage of responses saying the system was broken. Not to mention every single editor in the office has had a broken XBox 360 -- Not to mention a select few that have had to replace their XBox 360 three and four times each.

I can't afford to replace the hard drive right now. I gotta bail out on the 360. :bad:

They don't give any sort of warranty on the harddrive? Is that all that wrong? How long you had it? Store or CC warranty still good?

I didn't get a store warranty on it. I made the mistake of not keeping any hard drive paperwork around anyhow... I have the XBox 360 core warranty stuff laying around somewhere.

I will wait anyways. The XBox 360 still doesn't really have that good of a selection of games. I will wait until I have more cash available when I get a job, and Microsoft decides to issue a recall and/or resolves the hardware issues. I've heard of lemon decks when a system launches, but this is ridiculous.

my 360 has been perfect so far.

may be something to do that i got one of the new shipments, instead of the first ones that came out.

Most stores have a 90 or 120 day return policy for items that don't work properly. Not sure when you got your system, though.

For the time being you could just pick up a memory card and play your games that way.

Have you contacted MS? Last I heard they were still being very good about replacing systems, even those outside the offical 90 day policy.

Both my XBox and my XBox 360 have suffered an unusually short lifespan. Microsoft really needs to work on building a more stable system.

I will contact them soon. I still have quite a bit of time left on my factory warranty.
You should definitely call the 1-800-4my-xbox. They have been really good about replacing systems with problems, no questions asked.
