Best case for UT was for Clemson and OU to win. This immediately removes our on/off-the-field competition from contention. Next, hate Mayfield or not (I personally think he’s a prima donna, punk kid), but OU being the national champion would show that Clemson’s “perennial dominance” is untenable, and at least challengeable. Clemson is in our backyard competing for and stealing recruits left and right. Anything to mitigate their efforts only helps ours.

Flame away, but this upcoming game will be worse than coming down off a meth binge and having no money for a fix....

I wish there was a way both could lose.

It cant really get much worse than what we have endured since 2007. Give it a rest already. Either Georgia or Alabama will win the title. Both will continue to dominate for the near future. We will probably not sniff an East championship due to the herculean failure that is little Jimmy Haslam. I think Pruitt will get us competative in the next 2 years though. Will we be at a championship level? Highly doubtful. OU and Clemson winning would have not changed our situation one bit imo.

Accept these simple things and life as a Vol fan will be much easier.

Gotta pull for Bama as it will only help solidify our coaches legacy. Of course I will not watch the game as I have not watched any college game since our annual loss to Gators months ago.

Someday, Soon!!!!

Lol. An interdivisional rival and our biggest rival being in the NC does nothing to help us, regardless if the DC of one is our next HC. Accept these simple things, and life as a Vol fan will be much easier. You can’t and won’t convince me of any scenario where this benefits UT.

Wow according to your predictions we might as well get out of SEC and quit spending so much on football.Thought that the point of playing was to win championships? Guess that's not possible. Thanks for sharing your vision into the future.

Clemson averaged 33 points per game, 32nd in the country and Bama's D held them to 6 points. If you are a Tennessee player, Signee or maybe uncommitted, this is as good of advertising as you can get this time of the year.

Absolutely dominated Clemson, don't think they gave up any big plays and the DB's were about as impressive a unit as I've seen in some time. All the D-line they played with no drop off...C'mon.

It doesnt benefit us. All I am saying is that where we stand currently, whomever played in the NC wouldnt matter. Clemson, UGA and Bama will continue to recruit at a high level and be great.

Quit? Nope. But I just think the reality is we have a long, long way to go as a program.

If Bama and UGA had lost the SEC would have looked pretty awful this post season. In a way that does affect our team. We need the perception to remain that the SEC is the premier conference so when our team wins it they are a shoo in for the playoffs.

So, since Pruitt is the current DC, it will translate to UT’s success? Sal Sunseri, anyone? He was crowned Neyland incarnate because he was a Saban clipboard toter and was implementing a 3-4 scheme. It became arguably the worst defensive display by a TN team, ever.

Saban runs that defense. Period.

What was GA record last year? Hell Sgt. Carter had a 2 game win streak against them. You may be right but I disagree. With the recruiting potential this staff has and hopefully player development, imo we have a pretty bright future.

Saban gave credit to Pruitt, specifically...but yes, Bama will still look like Bama whoever their next guy is...All I'm saying is it doesn't hurt us one bit for current and future players to see what Pruitt has in store.

Under your scenario maybe Clemson hangs 40 on Bama, how would everyone feel about Pruitt then, lol.

Sal Sunseri was a LB Coach who got a promotion to DC when he got here...Big difference in my opinion.

Ridiculous. Win and you’re in. The SEC needs no help. An undefeated or one-loss SEC team will certainly get in the playoff, and will do so perennially under those conditions. It will be a long time before TN has an undefeated or one-loss season.

Not according to a majority of posters on this very site.

I will give Pruitt his due, in that he has been successful elsewhere, and without the tutelage of Saban. But my point remains otherwise.

No , there’s no translation to success from that however we have to kinds of publicity Good ( our new coach is a winner and well respected by recruits / players ). Bad ( Tennessee fumbles around for weeks trying to find a head coach ). I’ll take the first one right now because we’ve had enough or the second for one year . Bama doing well does not in anyway hurt UT , kids will go to Bama to win rings and get to the NFL . Georgia doing well does directly hurt us because we have recruited Georgia and still do heavily every year and we compete with them for the East .
