One play. Lucas Taylor. In shotgun. From the 2. Run the option.

Great package. Way to be innovative and confuse the defense ya dopes. :good!:

Not that it would have mattered, but at least TRY to make them think you're interested in passing the ball.

I guess Berry and Jones were unavailable for this failed attempt.

Thought it was a bad idea at the time. If you are going to do it though, put a Grade A athlete in shotgun to do it. That is what frustrates me the most.

I think the entire time they spent at practice on that package should have been used teaching defensive players how to form tackle and shed blockers.

You have to have priorities at practice, until the team learns to tackle better this isn't one of them.

I think they should have moved Ainge back like an H-back and presented the passing threat instead of moving him to wideout. That play was forecast so horribly. Not only did they know we were running...but they knew which side we were running to! (Ainge is not going to be blocking well out there)

well i wont say it was bad to have lucas there coz we know he made some throws last year... so that was good idea to have him there but then wrong time to try em' not when u are tryin to catch up and at 3rd down in 5 yard line...

Lucas Taylor is an average athlete. It was a bad idea.

I don't understand why we resorted to passing the ball and running gimmick plays inside the 3 yard line anyway. We had 3 downs to pound the rock...that should be enough to put the ball over the goal line.

we should have had crompton there just to spice up things... atleast that way there could have been some mystery arnd the play... with a broken pinky they know ainge is gonna be a non factor in that play...

Agree 100%. That is the most frustrating thing. Oline and Dline still suck. We had 3rd and 1 and tried to pass the ball for a first and failed, we punted and Jackson ran it back for a TD. Should be able to run the ball on 3rd and 1.

Should have just handed it off to Crompton and let him bowl his way into the endzone. :superman: hahaha

i liked the idea of having Foster and Hardesty in the game at the same time

I think it's a good idea, but not when you are running 5 wide receivers. Isn't that when we NEED to have Vinson, O'Neal, Moore, Jones, etc out there? Even if they aren't getting the ball thrown their way, they're getting experience lining up against another defense instead of their own during practice. If they get open, Ainge will find them.

That's my only beef with how they ran the no huddle. Coker is one thing because of his speed, but the other two make the defense come up that much closer because if they aren't worried about Taylor, Briscoe, or Rogers going deep, they sure as hell aren't worried about Hardesty or Foster going down field.

Fulmer/Cutcliffe are the most un-immaginative non-creative old farts I've ever witnessed in sport.

Everybody in the stadium/country knew that the ball was not going anywhere near Ainge (already injured). Great disguise...

I thought it was sort of a neat idea. It just wasn't executed well at the line of scrimmage. If Taylor scores, Cutcliffe is "smart" I guess.

Did you honestly think ainge was going to get the ball? Why not just take Ainge out on that particular play and put in another athlete? Then you at least give Cal something to think about. But it's a moot point because as you said, it wasn't executed well anyways.

That and what's the point of running the no huddle at the 2 yard line if it's only going to basically make it 10 on 11 with your QB lined up out wide. Who cares if they have the opportunity to sub at that point, get in the personnel you need to make the play....or make it more believable anyway.

That play worked beautifully a few years back with Banks at QB and Clausen out wide. Was about a 20yd TD IIRC. However, I don't see inside the 5 as a good place for it.

I have no problem with Ainge split out wide once he has ten functioning fingers and can actually catch a ball. It's just not as effective when you know they're not going to risk throwing across the field to him.

I remember when David Palmer did that against us on a 2 point conversion In, I want to say, 1992.

Everyone watching the game knew what was about to happen when he lined up at QB.......well except the TN defense.
