The ways I sees it...

If my business was damn near bankrupt 3 years after I fired him, but was making loads of $ while he was my employee...I'd definitely entertain the idea.

The "damn near bankrupt" has nothing to do with Counzo Martin. It has to do with paying Fulmer, Dooley, etc. I guess Counzo had something to do with the polar vortex this year.

And please don't take this as me thinking he has done a great job. I just don't believe in blaming people for things they don't control. Sure, he could put more in the seats (eventhough I believe tickets were declining under Pearl, too), but missing out on tickets is not why our AD may be in a tight financial situation.

I know it will be tough, but people in this thread are selling Cuonzo back next year very strongly, with a raise/extension, that tells me he's built a strong program and that his 4th year when he's got entirely his own roster, should be a good team.

He has to get an extension (and probably raise) if he is retained. Otherwise, he is a lame duck coach. No other way around it.

I know, and if he's retained with that investment, it should be because he has the program in good shape to be a solid NCAA team in the coming years.

Just curious but after 2008 did you expect a solid NCAAT run by the Vols in 2009? After 2010 did you expect one in 2011?

Yes, every year after his first year I expected one from Pearl, except his last season. That one had a million other factors involved that we all know about.

We pretty much got that, I was a bit let down by the first round loss to OK State in 2009. But we rebounded with an elite 8 the next season.

Well, his buyout actually decreases next year, so it depends if that is re-negotiated. Also, your term "investment" is interesting. He is the 10th highest paid coach in the SEC. The AD may very well think that they are getting good return on what they are paying.

I suspect Zo gets a raise and moves up the list after this season, as of now, his salary of 1.3 million is quite nice for a coach with his experience/success.

All the coaches in the league who make more than Zo are veterans who've been to multiple NCAA tournaments, or in the case of Tony Barbee, an NCAA tournament but he's also been fired this week.

If the AD's thinking is..."we only pay this guy 1.3 million a year, bad recruiting and NIT's are fine" then the AD needs replaced.

I doubt there's a single person here not supporting the team. Some seemingly have higher aspirations than others, and that's okay too. If a 10 seed every 4 years is your thing, you're satisfied. If you're worried that the talent on the team is lacking and you like making the NCAA tourney regularly, you're likely not satisfied.

Me, I'm going to live it up the rest of the season and hope we make an impact. We aren't likely to be in nearly as good a position as we are now for the next season or two, maybe longer.

In other words "Oh I hope we win so I can act happy but oh btw we're gonna suck mostly from now on."

You must be a real joy to be around.

Yet, again, you're saying that there's less than 40-50k Vol fans? There's no way you can say that the majority wants him back because you have no total population. All that says is there are 25k really loud voices, that most likely have zero influence on this decision. Very similar to news reporters picking the dumbest sounding people to do interviews. The loudest does not always reflect the majority.

You do know the petition MAXES OUT AT 50,000?...fun with numbers :loco:
