I was reading my O&W Game Program again and on page 25 there's the Volunteer Squad. What's the story with these guys? I'm assuming they're a practice squad. Are they scholarship players? Were these guys recruited? Who are some notable players that have come from the Volunteer Squad? Thanks in advance for any answers.

All of those guys either transfered here, walked-on here, or just came here. Non-scholly.

These guys are typically invited walk-ons that run scout team offense and defense during the season. I believe that David Yancey came to UT as a Volunteer Squad member.

I was actually curious about that myself. I noticed 2 QBs on the roster I never we had on the team.

Cunningham came from Clarksville Northeast, the same school Travis Stephens came from.

He was a 3 year QB that put up some pretty good stats. The team was 1-9 his Sr year but he was the #6 QB in the state thru 10 games.
