Who here works out regularly? Let's meet in this thread to share tips, motivate one another and talk crap (hey, that's a great motivator).

My workout testimony:

I was 25 when I set foot in the gym for the first time. I'm still learning my way around all those terrifying looking machines and still not enjoying my workouts, but age and the fear of cellulite is a great motivator. Hoping to get some definition on my abs by November (yes, there's an outfit motivating this) and I'm grateful for any tips, advice you may have.

I run 4 miles 5 days of the week, and 2 miles on weekends at Lakeshore Park in Knoxville. My freshman year at UT I started working out regularly, running 2.5 miles a day on the treadmill at old HYPER then at the new student center. Running outside seemed impossible to me before I was forced to after college (no more access to campus facilities), but now I love it.

I stay motivated by remembering not getting any second looks from girls when I was 260lbs.

A big part of weight loss is watching your sugar intake, imo. Other that sweets I eat all I want and have no problem maintaining my weight.

I'm starting my workout schedule tomorrow. I took a few months off, but start back tomorrow. I'm an exercise science major so if anyone needs tips/advice ask away.

Do I really have to cut carbs to lose that pesky little bump around my belly button? I mean, I'm not fat at all. I weigh just 100lbs at 5'2, but I dream of the tight stomach I see on the Maxim girls.

I do about 30 mins cardio and 30 mins weights 3-5 times a week.

Decent amount, ksusha.

But the order of importance of factors for one's physique is:

Diet > Exercise > Lifestyle > Supplements

You are what you eat. You don't have to cut out carbs. Figure out your weight, where you want to be, your base metabolic rate, and build a diet from there. Natural, unprocessed foods are the best. Saturated fats and carbs like excessive amounts of sugar are always good to avoid.

I was in Japan for a while recently, where my diet was fairly different. Had a lot of rice, noodles and miso soup. Just goes to show carbs aren't necessarily bad. Now that I'm back stateside, my diet consists largely of whole wheat breads, nuts, dairy, fruits and veggies, and fish and poultry.

Currently I'm 35 lbs. down from starting diet and exercise routines a few months ago. I have pretty much not worked out over the last month due to being out of the country, and also starting physical therapy for my knee (I don't like weight lifting if I can't work out my entire body). Other than getting back into core exercises over the last few days, I have done minimal exercise, and have still made significant progress just from a good diet.

i actually don't eat that many carbs and have mostly cut out the bad stuff - french fries, etc. most of my carb intake is buckwheat (a highly complex carb) and rice. i eat mashed potatoes on occasion.

not really a sweet tooth, so eliminating cakes, etc really isn't a problem for me.

right now i basically eat something like this every day:

morning - yogurt & tea or coffee

lunch - grilled or baked fish or chicken with veggies and sometimes rice, maybe some soup with a piece of bread if i am really hungry. fruit for dessert.

dinner - sushi/sashimi or fish/chicken with buckwheat & mozzarella and tomato salad.

i snack very little and usually tend to eat decent things, like carrots and hummus or olives, but can sometimes sneak the occasional bag of chips. that's really my only vice.

its better if you eat small meals every 3 hours or so, it speeds up you metabolism, which in turn helps burn fat

i work in an office environment. i pack my meals, and store them in the refrig at work. warm it up in the microwave. you can do it. not talking about weight being a problem, it's the fat that's the problem. not saying you are fat, i'm 25 and a former college athlete. once i was done playing i got the fat around the stomach myself. i workout 6 days a week, and have completely changed my diet. the small meals help burn the fat. burning fat and eating good doesn't mean that you will lose weight. you can add muscle and burn fat.

this is not an option for me. no fridge or microwave for staff use here. also, i cannot pull away from client work to eat three times a day at work. i do well to get my 15 minute lunch in.

i just have to work around that, that's all.

Looks good enough. Just be careful on the uncooked food. Not good for the digestive system. Speaking from the experience of just having been to Japan, the vast majority of their food is cooked.

Yep yep. I usually eat 200-300 calories at a time when I get hungry.

not an option for a person working in an office environment. also, as i've said before, weight isn't a problem. i am extremely slender.
You can figure it out. I'm a senior salesperson at a relatively busy Best Buy location working over 40 hours a week, and I can manage to get just a couple minutes to go have a snack.

Neither do I. So I pack stuff that stores at room temperature.

I personally have to put exercise before diet, because if I don't work out, I eat like crap. Once I get my morning run in, I'm good to go.
LOL yeah exercise is important, but ask anybody who knows. Personal trainers, nutritionists, etc. Diet is the biggest contributing factor. I have been getting sculpted over the last month on diet alone.

Diet is by far the biggest factor. you can workout all you want, but unless your diet is good, it's worthless. i did this right after i was done playing ball. worked out like a freak but ate garbage. i weighted about 265 and had a big belly on me. well big for me considering when i played i had a 6 pack. now i'm back down to 245, abs coming back. need to adjust my diet just a lil more

Monday = lots of push ups, sit ups and pull ups. Then run 2.5 miles in 20 minutes using intervals.

Tuesday= Brisk jog of 5 miles at a 10 minute pace.

Wed= Legs, Back and Biceps. Then run 1.5 miles in 10.5 minutes.....

Thursday = Brick jog of 5 miles at a 10 minute pace.

Friday= Chest, Shoulder and Triceps. Then ride the bike for half an hour and call it a week.

my diet isn't bad, is it? there has to be some way to do this without having to eat six times a day. i usually do that on the weekends, naturally, but i just can't work it into my schedule. a minimum of 3 days a week i am in drafting sessions with a client 10-15 hours a day. it's just not realistic.

so you are more of a runner than a lifter? i'd be the opposite of you. i lift 6 days a wk. one body part a day, and run like 3-4 days
