The VolNation fan methodology:

1. Preseason, in any sport, convince yourself that the Orange team will be way better than any objective measures rendered by outsiders would reasonably indicate.

2. Spread the sunshine about the upcoming season until it becomes "common wisdom" among the fan base.

3. As the season unfolds basically in line with the objective/outsider perspective (+\- 5%) complain that the coaching staff is failing to meet the overinflated expectations of the fan base. Start fire coach X and bring back coach Y threads on message forums.

4. Accuse anyone not buying into the overinflated expectations loudly of "settling" for coach X. Don't wait for the season to end; do this early and often.

5. At season' end, when (usually) coach X has overachieved outside expectations and underachieved the overinflated VN expectations, start a huge moan fest about coach X until the next recruiting class signs.

6. Go to step 1.

We just had one of these whine about the fans threads.
That all you got?
Can't we lump these into one 'Whine about the whiners' thread.

This isn't whining. It's a revelation. It's the result of research. It's dogma. It's reality. And it's hilarious.
So expecting the team to be prepared for the first game of the season, first game in Atlantis, TAMU and NC ST at home is a hliarious expectation?

No, what's hilarious is expecting any team not named Syracuse to be prepared for 100% of its games all year long.

But of course, this has nothing to do with what I said. I must have hit a little too close to home.

Is this supposed to be applied to this year's basketball team?

And last years football team (check out the 9-3 predictions on the football board)...and next years football team...and last years hoops team...and the current baseball team...and Riley Ferguson...and on and in and on...

OP, you should've just said.....

Cuonzo aint very good, but im OK with it and you should be too.

Never said I was ok with it. Just laughing at the fools who get peezeed off when their complete delusions don't come true.

Just watch. There will be fire Butch threads when the football team wins 5/6 this fall because VN is convinced a bunch of new freshmen will take us 9-3.

Not sure you know what you said.
You say fan expectations are out of line.
If expecting your team to be prepared to beat teams they are clearly better than is an exaggerated expectation, well I guess in your mind your argument holds.

What? Shouldn't we be prepared for every game? Not that we should win every game but is it that hard to prepare your team for every game?

"Hey guys, let's not expect our coaches to do some of that there coaching thing. Expectations are way too high."

Personally, I think UT basketball over the years has been a bit of a perennial underachiever. I frankly see that more as a problem with having a balanced team in terms of talent than coaching. The program rarely seems to have more than a couple of dependable scorers or go-to guys, which makes you easier to defend.

If Martin goes, I think the focus on your next hire should be someone with a history of focus on recruiting.

Did anybody notice the first three by Florida was in transition and the second by Wilbekin was when Martin for some unexplicable reason switched back to man-to-man? From WBZT 22 "Florida held a 53-46 lead midway through the second half but went nearly seven minutes without a field goal as Tennessee switched to a 1-3-1 zone defense and cut the deficit to 55-54 on Stokes' three-point play with 4:32 to play. Frazier ended the drought with a 3-pointer a minute later and Wilbekin made it back-to-back scores from beyond the arc on the next possession to help put it away." By the way when a team with only 7 scholarship players beats a team with 3 All-SEC players in the starting lineup, that points to the coaching!:hi:

Appears to be 100% accurate. Don't let the window lickers bring you down. They're too stupid to see the wisdom in your post.

OP is pretty much spot on.

I say this in jest because we do this too. Here's how it goes from my point of view.

Preseason: All these returning starters, plus that recruiting class? Pshhhh we're looking at a conference title at the MINIMUM. Talkin bout SEC COY even. Lets roll!!!

After first 3 games: Give it time. They're young still and need to learn the system. We're still good enough to finish top 2.

After next 3 games: These kids lack discipline. Not sure we didnt get outcoached out there too. Keeping the faith but have my doubts.

After the next 3 games: Did you see the attendance? Terrible! No one was at the game. Its like no one cares, and rightly so. The product on the court aint what it used to be. I wonder what former Coach X is doing?

After the next two games: I got 2 seats courtside! $20 gets em. Hell, if you buy me a burger and beer, I'll give em to you. Fire Coach X. Bring back old Coach X! I'm sending the AD a strongly worded email right now.

After the next loss: Check my Facebook profile pic. Thats all my College gear under those flames. This program sucks and I hate life. Why do we even compete in this sport?

End of the season: If we can land another class like last year, we might have a chance to suprise a lot of folks. Besides, Coach X will finally have "his players" by then.

1. This is true of many fan bases
2. Anyone who is realistic but not willing to settle for mediocre is a NegaVol, somehow not a true fan
3. Coaches get paid for performance period, as it should be.
4. For you UF, closet VOL fans, you know the same thing is happening with your fan base and the football program right now, so try to focus on that.
