The first time I can remember cheering for the Vols was in 1977 and the reasoning behind it was quite simple....my great grandparents were from Tennessee and returning home from a vacation there I bought a UT cap and jersey. Since that day I considered myself a Vol all the way.
Living in Texas it's not easy to support the real UT when you are surrounded by all of the Texas fans. I do what I can to educate people though !!
I have never been to a game at Neyland but I have seen the Vols play in 3 Cotton Bowl games, so while I am by no means an expert, after 31 years I do have an opinion.
I like Phillip Fulmer, I thought he was a good coach and a good person and he has brought UT great success. However, in my humble opinion, it is time for a change. I don't see the program improving and remaining at or below the status quo is unacceptable.
I do not hold grudges against the coaching staff...I wish all of them well, but there needs to be a change at the helm in order for the ship to be righted. I hope the powers that be can see the light and make the change, for the good of the program and the fans.
Just my view Texas.

The view from Texas sucks. The past 2 times the longhorns have been #1, the Vols have been putrid and below .500.

I agree thats its time... past time... for a change at the helm. Our program needs a complete overhaul.

If you think the view from Texas is not so good, you should be right here in Knoxville. It is getting downright ugly. I agree there need to be big changes at the top, but these personal attacks on Fulmer are ridiculous. Can't we just all agree the state of the program is horrendous and agree to move on in a classy way?

What would be the classy way if Fulmer resists change?

We need to remove Fulmer whether he chooses to cooperate or not. By classy, I mean to stop the personal attacks on his character. This is a game, and I think it shows class to refrain from personal character attacks.

In terms of the fat jokes, etc, I agree. But if he chooses to not retire and proceeds to tear the program apart, then I would have to think he has some serious character issues.

...it is time for a change, and I have supported all coaches since Dickey (before that I paid no attention to who coahced). Your story is interesting as mine is very similar...relatives in Tennessee who stirred my interest too. PS the view from Indiana doesn't look too good either, but I am not counting the VOLS out for winning the rest.
