With Charlie Weis a lock to be gone from ND officially after next week and all eyes pointing towards Urban Meyer to be the next head coach, the curiousness coming from us is what devastating effect can this have on Florida as they try to keep those who have committed to their program already, or are trying to convince the prospects they are going after (Powell, Hicks, Green) that Urbie is not going anywhere. We know Kiffin is already eyeing a number of committed Gator players, including Mack Brown, Matt Elam and Ian Silberman and just seething at the opportunity to tell these guys your coach may not be there next year. I expect others to do the same thing too.

So I love how the Gator trolls are highly confident with certain prospects unaware that something big is brewing regarding their coach. ND officials do have an attractive package for him and don't expect them to go away until Urban does what Les Miles did a couple of years ago when he was certain to be Michigan's next head coach.

Plus the Charlie Strong to blank is not going to go away either so things may start to get bumpy in Gainsville in the coming future.

Urbie and ND threads have sprouted up in the Around the NCAA forum so if I am a Gator troll checking that forum out, I would be a bit worried (already some have showed up)

I don't see any case scenario of ND getting a new coach until after the bowl games in January. The first reason is the process at ND will be slow. They will interview a bunch of coaches and try to figure out who they want. They may have a good idea of the coaches they want, but they need to establish Plan A, B, C, etc. All the coaches ND is going to go after are top tier coaches so they will all be in bowl games themselves. The coaches won't want to lose their players for their last game so they won't want any info getting out. I know info will leak like it always does, but all the coaches will deny interest until they actually have the contract signed probably the end of the first week early second week in January. I would find it hard to believe if it took longer than thise tho for recruiting reasons. Whatever coach does end up at ND has to convince his current recruits to join him at ND so they won't want to wait till the last minute to do this. I am kind of new at this tho, so if someone thinks I'm wrong someone please correct me.

Really man, you actually lend any credence to this crap? Wasted thread. Meyer is not going anywhere because his contract says he cannot entertain other offers until the final game of the regular season. He didn't meet with Notre Dame. Dooley is not going to let him go anywhere and neither is Slive.

Urban Meyer won't go to Notre Dame after this year. He still wants to prove he can win a NC without Tebow. After that his daughter will be out of high school and be more apt to relocate, although I think it would be for an NFL team personally.

Meyer is ND's first choice. If Fla wins the national title, I think Urbie is gone. Tebow is outta there, and winning in the SEC will get tougher. Meyer will have done it all at UF anyway. Maybe he is ready for a new challenge. He has no buyout if he takes the ND job. ND only plays 1-2 tough games per year. So being the Savior wouldn't be as tough as staying on top in the SEC. I don't really care, I would rather beat Fla with all their guns.

Although I do wish he'd go away forever.

UM is not NFL material. Strictly a college coach.

Great thread. Unless it is an outsider like what we got last December then their candidates will be playing in bowls. However, they may want to get a decision sooner than later because of the effect it may have on recruiting. In case Meyer does bolt for ND, Charlie Strong may coach the bowl but with his name linked to Virginia and the fact Groh may be getting the axe, it may get very dicey from here on out.

I really think Brian Kelly has a better chance of becoming the next head coach.

His daughter goes to Georgia Tech (and she's fine as hell). Does he have 2?

Regardless, I think that the OP is right - This will be a distraction to their recruits and an opening for our relentless staff.

The way i see it, it could end up two ways. The first is, it will have no effect at all. CUM and Strong will continue to tell prospects they will both be there. The second, is if it gets leaked CUM did interview for the ND spot and Strong interviews for another coaching job, it could be disastrious for UF. All of the coaches will be telling prospects that Strong will be gone and Meyer will be gone, but it will be up to the prospects to who they believe. Question I have tho, is if CUM does leave, would UF consider giving the HC job to Strong or would they look for someone better?

They can possibly go after Bob Stoops, or convince Mike S (if he does not take the Buffalo job) or Jon Gruden (if he still has a home in Florida) that the college route is not the a bad way to get back into coaching plus you have full control in getting your players.

I know it doesn't mean anything, but I know Gruden signed an extension with ESPN last week doing MNF. If UF job opened up I know it would be intruiging to see, but I really think he seems happy where he's at right now.

I kind of want to see Meyer stay at Florida simply for the reason I want to see the look on his face when Kiffin and Co. are beating him year in and year out.The game this season should have shown everyone that CLK is for real and when he gets the talent level back up the Vols are going to be a major contender and I want Urbie to be a witness to it.

Gruden likes the NFL game. He is learning elements of the spread option in his spare time to try and take it to the NFL game when he is rehired.

Gruden isn't going anywhere for a while---just signed a big fat contract with espn---He gets his football fix and his ego fed---without the pressure. He will be there until he burns out---if he burns out. He is the best MNF has seen----ever.
