If you live in the south i'm pretty sure you've encountered this.

You're driving down the road & there's another car coming toward you, just as they pass you, you have no idea who they are, you've never met them, with their hand at twelve on the wheel they raise two fingers & wave at you.

I guess it's just a southern thing. Sometimes it frustrates me becasue I don't know who it is, I spend the rest of my day going through in my head who it could have been. Oh well.

It doesn't matter if you know people or not. It's the same dynamic that makes walking down the street in New York a head down experience while walking down the street in Atlanta is a constant "Hey, hoya doin, hey, hi, hello, hey, nod, nod, hey, hello . . . . "

I didn't say there was anything wrong with. I just said it can be frustrating when I don't know who it is.

I catch myself doing it sometimes when i'm in town. It's southern habit.

No big deal 003. We're all blood brothers here in the south and just like to say "Howdy"!! You oughta be proud to be accepted into the fraternity.

At least in the south there's no guessing where you stand.

2 fingers = Good

1 finger = You suck

Due to a case of "Jersey Finger" caused by a slight indescretion in my youth, I have a crooked ring finger on my left hand, making any wave appear to be made with an even number of fingers. From a distance, the pinky just disappears, and even a full fiver could be mistaken for a two-finger if the thumb is blocked by the rest of the hand.

So the next time you are having this problem trying to think of the waver, remember this post and say to yourself, "I bet it was Cotton."

Yup! I did this all the time growing up in little Nashville, GA.
I havn't lived there in 8 years, so when I go back and people wave, I'm like, "who the heck are you waving at, buddy?!"

Definitely a small town thing. Doesn't matter if you know'um or not- you wave at every car.

I have the habit of driving with my left arm extended out catching the wind and it looks like I am waving to every one that is going by.

Good times!

Guilty. I like pretending i'm an airplane.:p

Though one thing that I might run someone off the road for is staring at me. You know, you're passing someone on the 4 lane or interstate & you catch them just a glaring at you, not watching where they're going. I can handle the wave but the staring has gotta stop. Southern or not.

Before we got our van, our biggest Coonhound Perry would have to ride in the front seat next to me.

You would not believe the looks/stares we would get going down the innerstate.

What kind of hound? My grandad was a big coonhunter & I would go with him every week. Good times. He didn't really like anything other than RedBones.
RedBones FTW!
