Let's look at the real truth. We can not change Offence even with a new "O Cord" No one is going to come in and change an offence that Phil has been around for 30 years. It is the same offence we had in the 70s. A new "O cord." would want his offence in place and Phil will not allow that. I think the world of Phil and if he wants to be at the top of the league he will need to bring someone in with new idea new designs and let them run the offence. If not he will go the way of Johnny and all because he doesn't want to change. Phil is a great recruiter, and can motivate as well as any head coach out there, but lets face it, any good leader surrounds him or her self with the best and lets them run that dept. The only way we get better is to have an offence that is new and fresh. let's hope he will do this. If not then lets start looking.

PLEASE Phil help yourself and it will help Tennessee!

New and Fresh Offense? Name one! Every offense out there is a variation of the either the old: Single Wing, T, Wing T, or I. Variations have been variously called; Shotgun, Pro Set, Spread, Wish Bone, Broken Bone, Power I, L-Set, Offset I, etc., etc., etc. The basic rule of football requires that you have 7 men on the line of scrimage and there must be one somewhere behind the center to accept the snap. Then there is only so much you can do with the other three. The offensive scheme and play selection are irrelevant if the line doesn't block or receivers don't catch the ball.

I, for one, believe that the Old Single Wing would still work well on the goal line or in other very short yardage situations.

The truth is that nothing is going to change. Things did not really change offensively when Phil took over. This is Phil's offense and before that it was Johnny's offense. It is not going to change.
The only fault I have with Sanders is player development. Yes Randy does the play calling but it is not his offense. Randy is not developing his talent well.

This isn't really true. The Vols played a lot of one-back shotgun against georgia--FB got limited playing time--which is decidedly not what UT has done in the past. Fact is, the Vols have modernized the offensive schemes--but they haven't worked. UT under Fulmer has always been a run-oriented, pound-the-rock offense. But look at the Florida loss--UT went away from a successful run attack in the first half and tried to beat the gators one-on-one pass coverage in the second half. Instead, the Vols beat themselves because they couldn't beat florida's pass defense. UT should have stuck with the run. The Vols probably should have run more against georgia. You can't run very well out of the shotgun--that's a fact. The Vols have some talent at WR, but the passing game is very inconsistent and IMO the Vols need to get back to the power-running, I formation attack that was successful in the past. Stop trying to be cute. I used to hate the predictability of Fulmer's run attack--but it was a helluva a lot better than this mess. UT would also do well to use more misdirection in their attack--which they've never done under Fulmer. Good offenses are unpredictable, which keeps a defense on its heels rather than its toes. The Vols don't do that either.

This is also the "same offense" that won a NC. I think this team has done a lot of things different offensively this year...I never thought I would see a UT team that didn't run the ball enough. Whether it is coaching, player , whatever your opinion is on the offensive woes this year, the plays have been there we just have not been able to get it done. Playcalling has not been the problem this season, -has and that is fact. Obviously we all have opinions on who is at fault for the lack ofexecution, but I think it has been pretty obvious that playcalling and offensive style have not been the problem.

I dont give a rats behind what kinda offense you have, it all boils down to EXECUTION!

The same offense that has been run since the 70's, was the same offense we had in 1998. WHat the difference is we, week in and week out, executed those plays to perfection in 1998.
