The Tennessean: UT Vols believe 'we're a great team'

Kyle Phillips is a perfect example of a lot of players on this team who have outstanding potential that has never been fully realized. We've all seen flashes of brilliance from a bunch of these guys but they just haven't brought it play in play out; game in game out. Some of that was injury, some was attitude, and some was coaching. Imagine if you will (I hear this in a Rod Serling voice) a group of young men originally thought to have great athletic prowess but through a series of misadventures have been humiliated and scorned. Now they have met a mentor. A mysterious man who has helped them to finally put it all together and play as a healthy, unified team to their full athletic potential. Welcome West Virginia to the Twilight Zone!

Play every down to win.
Play every second on the game clock to win.
There is no quit in Tennessee.
If, when it's done, you haven't won, it better be because the other team beat you.

Yeah, you gotta like the attitude.

Link worked for me. *thumbsup*

Haha, the writer is saying "whoa, Kyle," and "hold on, Kyle," and I'm saying in my head, "Attaboy, Kyle!" and "YEAH, Kyle!" :)

Last evening on the drive home on 104.5 in Nashville the radio hosts were basically laughing and poking fun at a Vols fan who called in thinking UT had a good shot to win the WV game. Basically no one in the media, not even the local homers think UT is winning this game.

I'm having an orange crush as I type. Told my foolish self not to buy into the hype again this year like I have for the last 10 as it pertains to UT football. But here I go again! If Kyle feels it so should we all. I really enjoyed Pruitt's statement, "I'm not used to going into games hoping to win." Hello orange glasses and pass me that kool-aid!!!!!

While watching the press conference the other day, I saw a coach who really likes what he has. I don't think it's an act. I believe his players have bought in, and that is what matters most.

I really believe we will get there, just cannot believe we are there game 1. Love the staff, and the fact they hae worked together, but fear we will have just enough muffs defensively due to the just installing the new schemes to give them some scores or keep drives alive to make victory hard to come by. Can our offense not help them due to the same type issues with turnovers or drive stopping issues of being on different pages? Just don't know.... I am all in on our future just not of the opinion that the future is now.. would almost be a miracle....

I was thinking the same thing. There's a quite confidence about CJP and he hasn't once to my knowledge said anything related to tempering expectations because we're young, hurt, lack depth, inexperienced at key positions, whatever. Everything has been cool controlled confidence...kinda like Clint Eastwood before a gun fight...you know the bad guys are going down!

Hope this will all work out. Been listening to the talking heads and the radio sports "experts" and almost all are saying we will not even cover the point spread, much less win outright. I have faith, thinking UT has very good chance to win and the point spread would be no problem to cover. Am I wrong?

I've allowed myself to start believing in Pruitt. I may be disappointed but confidence like we've gotten from Kongbo and now Phillips makes a huge difference. It is the difference between a Jones or even Richt with a track record of underutilizing talent and a coach that wins games he isn't supposed to win.
