I wonder if that was more or less an indirect result of what happened with Kenny Pickett’s fake QB slide TD run against this very same defense in the ACC Championship Game.

So, going into the last minutes of the 4th quarter:

-Wake Forest’s QB needs 1-2 TDs to tie/break Lamar Jackson’s ACC record for total TDs in a single season by a QB.

-Wake Forest’s kicker needs on more successful field goal to tie the mark for the most accurate kicker in NCAA history.

-Wake Forest’s WR needs 38 more yards to end up having the best season by a WR in school history.

With only 5:05 left in the game, what ends up happening? While the announcers are discussing all 3 of these potential records breaking?

…A freshman RB breaks a tackle and runs 27-yards straight into the endzone for a TD.

38-10 Wake Forest. 4:15 left in the game.

Final score: 38-10 Wake Forest.

The Demon Deacons finish 11-3, tying the school record for most wins in a season.

The team is currently ranked 20th in the AP and 19th in the Coaches’ Poll, and the highest ranking the school has ever ended a season in either of these polls is 18th and 17th, respectively.

It’ll remain to be seen whether they pass these marks with an 11-3 season. I think only 1 higher ranked team close to them lost (and 1 didn’t play).
