I haven't seen much mention of this, but Kurt Schmidt deserves a ton of credit for what this program has done from a strength and conditioning standpoint.

A) Tennessee just beat Bama on both lines of scrimmage with much lesser-rated recruits. The improvement of the offensive line has been miraculous and the dline's improvement has been well-documented. That's not only a reflection of Elarbee and Garner, but also the strength program.

B) Remember how half the team would get hurt under Butch by midseason? Yes, we've had the Tillman injury and a few guys nicked up, but this is football. Relatively speaking, they've stayed pretty healthy. Also a reflection of the strength and conditioning program.

Great post , very insightful ! Coach Ekeler also coaches the D-line , as well as special teams coordinator .

Funny, earlier today I was reflecting on how severe our injury issues typically were with Butch. Seems like we had some of the highest injury rates most years he was here. I speculate that our focus was solely pushing weight around and overlooking functional strength and movement.

Butch was known to make coming in to lift optional for certain players.
