I look at our 2017 class thus far, and I see a whole dirty mountain... with diamonds underneath.

Fast QB
Playmaking WRS
Hello lineman!!
And a super underrated in-state haul thus far

And we're not done yet...

We end up with the number 10 ranked class probably. Just inside where we need to be.

But this class is going to WAKE you up to Butch's talent evaluation.

He got big eyes for talent. BIG BUTCH EYES!!

OP,

You giving away Power Ball numbers as well?

It's July! How good the 17 class "is" won't be known until sometime in 2019!

There are some studs in this class. Playmakers from top to bottom. Damn I feel so good right now. We got this title IX crap behind us, a top 10 ranking going in this season, the largest college gameday show ever with the Battle At Bristol. Go Vols!

One thing I do not doubt Butch and Co on are their talent evaluations. If they feel good enough about a kid to offer a scholly (regardless of stars) he's a player.

Right. Recruiting rankings only matter when UT is ranked high.

Look, maybe Jones hits on a few of these. Maybe he hits at a better than average clip. But UT so far has missed out on the top shelf players... including at least one critical instate target.

I see 23 commits with about 10 legit SEC caliber players

VN -- help out a Junior Member here. Butch catches all the crap for a mediocre recruiting class. Aren't the coordinators involved in these decisions? In Shoop we trust?

Everyone is involved.

I think they like this kid as a project. They feel great about QB depth.

I meant the whole class, not just the QB we picked up. Don't the coordinators find guys for their scheme (not star-dependent) who they want to recruit/accept commitment?

They have their own evaluation process and couldn't care less about stars.

Head coach makes the final call on accepting a kid, but yes all coaches contribute. Thats why they all have their respective recruiting grounds and regions.

So yes, to answer your question again.

High paid professionals evaluating talent in person vs anonymous internet people who spent 2 minutes looking up stars - not sure who's opinion I should listen to.

Really?

I feel like theres not enough tape on him.

Just based on what I've seen.

He places the ball very, very well. He leads guys open. He looks to have a good but not necessarily great arm.... JMO, looks stronger than Dobbs' arm as a recruit.

Don't like sleeper classes. I would much rather have a class like Alabama or UGA is having this year. Sign highly ranked stud players and let the cream rise to the top. Since we missed out on some of the top recruits we are now having to go with these sleeper types. Might work out but IMO I don't like what I see so far. Need more studs.

It seems like we are taking more grade risks this year than in any before. Looks like the title IX lawsuit hurt our image more than any of us wearing orange shades realized. We have given offers to top recruits and they have turned us down. Butch isn't getting who he wants, he's getting who will come here. He sold immediate playing time these past 3 years, can't sell that anymore. He has to sell championships and NFL draft picks after this season to remain an elite recruiter
