I have a few questions about the process of the coaching search dealing with the public. Do you think MH will release a list of candidates? will he wait till he has it down to maybe a final 2 or 3? or will he even at all. I know that he has stated a few things about keeping it a little more hush hush by going through the agency to limit specualtion. So i was jw ur guys opinion because im about to die to hear something official.

No. He stated that his top priority during the search was to protect the candidates confidentiality.

I understand that this is probably the best way to handle it from a profesional standpoint. But do u guys believe this is right or should the fans deserve a little more involvement or at least update on the search?

If it were up to the fans and all our infinite wisdom we would have about 12 new head coaches next season with all the favorites and names that have been posted on here.

Its Hamilton's job to make the choice and the fans are going to have to accept who he chooses. If he fails at his job his fate will be the say as CPF's.

Hamilton will not release a list, however like everything else including the press break of CPF not being retained someone will get the leak of some of those candidates. There are too many journalist trying to crack this story, I.E. Chris Low, Brent Hubbs, John adams, as well as more national reporters for ESPN & Fox. That being said I feel the day after Butch Davis last game we will find out as we know according to Govolsxtra.com that he is candidate 1.

I personally don't want fans to have input on the new coach. Mainly because there isn't a clear cut choice. My husband, my dad, my brother, and I all four want someone different. And there are several people here that I think have a lot of sense, and even they don't agree.

Besides, one person needs to take the credit or the blame of how it turns out, and that's what MH gets paid to do.

:eek:lol:

And there are people on this board that know 100x more than those "national" reporters.

I e-mailed Wes Rucker (University of Tennessee - Chattanooga Times Free Press), just asking him some of his opinions on the coaching search and asked him who he really thought has a shot of being our next head coach. He mentioned Butch Davis as number 1, so you may be right....

I was in grad school at NCSU when they were doing a head football coaching search after Amato. It felt almost exactly like this. All of these rumors (Bill Cowher being one) and all of a sudden, they announced Tom O'Brien from out of nowhere (he hadn't even been previously mentioned in rumors/media. Don't know if that'll be the case here or not.

No, it would undermine the process. Hambone has a good track record so far, lets hope he still has the mojo. This might be the biggest decision of his time at Tennessee.

I concur-- I'm sure he's getting plenty of input from the boosters.

I have no doubt in my mind that Davis and maybe Gruden are at the top of his list. Not so sure how hard he will be pressing for Chucky considering how big a long shot he is. After Davis, though, there is no telling who he is targeting. I'd say there are 6-7 names he is talking to.

If he's smart he'll tell the boosters to leave him the hell alone.

Im sure at times he would like to. But you know $ makes the world go around. I would guess he listens and then tells them the old "I'll take that into consideration and thank you. BTW have you seen the plans for the ____________ facility we are planning? (as he puts his hand on their shoulder) :)

I see that more people are talking about Gruden and Davis now. Why would Lane Kiffin be in town last week playing golf at Tennessee National?

IMO it is between Gruden and Kiffin.

I know Davis is doing well in the ACC but it is still down. I mean Miami and FSU are still losing ball games they are used to winning.

Either way we go I would guarantee we have a better record next year than this year! Something to look forward too.

I see your point, but why is there an athletic director if the boosters run the athletic department?

They've already contacted Leach's agent as a fallback if Gruden, Davis and Kiffin all decline.

Brewster is another guy.

Boosters give the jack man. The good ones (AD's) know how to walk the fine line and do whats best for the University while making the boosters feel like they actually had something to do with it. Likewise smart boosters know the best thing to do is let the AD do his job.

For example. How many boosters do you think were calling for the hire of Bruce? Now I know several who claim to have made the suggestion. Some people need to feel big.

I know that but boosters did not want Buzz fired and some evidently did not want to see CPF go.

No sense in having a Bobby Lowder situation here.
