The SEC East is better than the SEC West this year

This will be unpopular but the best division may be the Big 10 East (Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Michigan State and Maryland). Of course, the Big 10 West is probably worse than the top end of the American Athletic Conference.....

Imagine if this was our schedule this year:

Oregon State
Rutgers
TCU
Tulane
Penn State
Indiana
Minnesota
Purdue
Nebraska
Michigan State
Maryland
Michigan

Even as down as we are right now, we would be in the CFB playoff conversation.

We would lose to tcu, penn st, michigan, and likely lose to oregon st, minn,
The only sure wins there would be rutgers,.tulane, indiana, purdue

Assuming we didn't get any better, we are rolling to 9 wins there, not sure about CFP

A&M lost to Bama and Clemson, as would just about any team in the country not named Ohio State.

That said, I think the SEC West is still the best division in CFB.

Texas A & M has the 93rd scoring defense in the country. Take away the close call against Clemson (who BTW lost to Syracuse in 2017), and they ain't got much. UK is improved, so that's a solid win, but that's all it is. It's not like UK or for that matter Junior are suddenly elite top tier SEC teams.

You’re bringing up a Clemson loss to Syracuse last season to make a point about Texas A&M this season? Okay...

My only point was the top teams in the West are playing very good football, the SEC West is still superior to the East, however the gap is closing.

The thing I struggle with is how to weigh Alabama. They're so far and away the best team in the country , let alone the league. Would it be fair to drop the top team from each division and compare teams 2-7? Maybe not, but I just really think most people see Bama in the west and tie in all of their mystique to the whole division. I could be way off.

Yes. Point being, Clemson seems to find one game to underachieve in every year, and maybe this year it was Tamu.

And I disagree.. Instead I agree that top to bottom, the East is stronger. That is if we match 1 v 1, 2 v 2, etc, the East wins.

But if you were to rate the relative quality of each team, then the West is probably stronger, but maybe not by much.

There will be more games, and it should be pretty clear by the end of the year, but even then there are two ways to look at it.

If you eliminate Bama from the conversation, then what’s the point of a comparison?
