USC lands one more five star than us, and we have one more four star. The difference is we have 13 more 3 stars than them. How is one 5 star worth more than one 4 star and 13 3 stars.

I feel exactly the same way! USC has like 18 recruits and we get 32...how did TN get shafted? And ESPN does not even put us in their top 5? WTF...all well..just as long as these recruits prove it on the field that is all that matters!

We are number 5 in ESPN's top 5. Also...I don't know. If you have 12 scholly's to give...and you land all 4/5 stars in key positions...I can see why that might chalk up as better than someone who has 30+ scholly's landing a bunch of 3s and then some 4s and 5s. It really comes down to the avg. stars ... and I think that deserves some credit.

espn doesn't include juco and prep school. Therefore Vinson, Oneal, and Mckenzie are not listed.

I think that it is somewhat of an efficiency class thing...Rivals weights their avg. stars rating very highly.

the avg stars are a way of designating who is getting the best quality players, but it is not based on their resources or the number of scholarships they offered. 33class beats an 18 class any day.

I understand that. But, it is kind of like GDP and GDP per capita. Scandanavian countries come in really high in GDP per capita because they do a lot with few people as opposed to America that does more...but with even more people. My point is that rivals uses their avg. stars with a heavy weight when assigning their points - I think. I don't know their formula, but it appears that way.

I don't really get too caught up in it. I like that they do it because it helps folks like me distinguish between classes (top 10, top 25, etc.). But, they can't be more accurate than plus/minus 3-5 spots.
