The Refs!

The helmet penalty wasn't on the player getting his helmet ripped off on the tackle. Matthew Butler lost his helmet on the same play and he was flagged away from the tackle.

Then my question would be why in the world the refs would not feel the need to clarify that when everybody watching would naturally assume it was being called on Taylor? And why would the announcers not mention it? Either way, just a bad look all around.

Dear Santa,

Please send me one weekend without someone whining about the officiating. It’s part of the game. It’s always been this way, but HD television with 25 cameras and repeated replays let everyone know it.

It’s cold in the winter. Water is wet, and refs blow a ton of calls.

And don’t be telling me there’s no Santa. If people can believe SEC officials are all told to influence outcomes, I can believe in Santa.
The "there's always bad calls" is getting old. People aren't complaining about refs missing on calls. Everyone knows they have tough jobs. It's the blatant, inconsistent, right-in-front-of-them awful calls on CRUCIAL PLAYS that is getting blasted. Enough with the jumbotron/replay excuse too. Every call I've complained about is always ridiculously obvious in real time. It's always happened but it's been worse these last few years.

Why the crap do we need a need a new Jumbotron or even the one we have if we NEVER show any replays??? Annoying
They wore out those sorry refs at the USCe game. Replays over and over kept the crowd loud!

Spoiler alert on the Commodore Door TD replay.....he was in, it was a legit touchdown. Taylor burned yet again.
Taylor has been burned but that isn’t an example. The arc of that throw had to be perfect to go over a leaping and outstretched Taylor. He was covered and Taylor located the ball and made an attempt. It was maybe 2 inches over his fingertips.

I don't know why they didn't explain it. I agree that it is obvious that Taylor didn't illegally participate. The TV crew was trying to show light on Vanderbilt's best player on offense and his injury resulting in lack of explanation. If you watch the play again, you can see Butler running without a helmet on the play. If someone ripped off Butlers helmet and he got flagged, that would be bull too.

Just when I think I've seen the most inexplicably bad referee call ever...

A player rips another's helmet off and the victim gets a penalty for participating without a helmet. It's like a bad joke.
I wonder what would happen if the wide receiver scored a touchdown after the safety stopped playing because he had his helmet ripped off. I hope it never happens to us. Go Vols

Well, if it's gonna happen to anyone, it would probably be us.

I would argue it’s much better now. They used to screw not only the penalties, but also the catches, fumbles, ball spots, stepping out of bounds, etc. at least most of those get fixed on replay now.
