1. Simply get to a minimum of 6 wins a year while being competitive in most every game. This was the level Dooley had problems attaining. Jones needed the Miracle at Columbia to get there in Year 2. Many Vol fans deny this 1st level is part of the rebuild.
2. Get to 8-9 wins a year, with almost no losses to teams below us to teams in the recruiting rankings. We are competitive in all but 1-2 games a year, and beat Florida on a regular basis. We’ve only been at this level once since 2007. 2016 was a mirage where we were lucky to win 8 regular season games.
3. Get to 10+ regular season games and routinely stomp teams that have had the upper hand of late. At this level, we beat Georgia or Alabama from time to time and compete for division or conference championships.

As we climb to the next level, the level of recruits and ability to flip becomes much easier. A lot of fans are bummed we couldn’t grab someone that Bama or Georgia had committed but we are just not there yet. It’s actually a good sign we held onto our commits through ESD.

If we cant get to 8 wins next season with that schedule, I will seriously doubt that Pruitt is the guy.
I wouldn’t say that. You have to look at what’s in the team. Many of the guys from those highly ranked classes are no longer on the team. With being said my concern going forward is that we’ll get beat by more complete teams with more experienced rosters. BYU is always good.

I don’t think you have a real good grip on reality.
The last two years are arguably the worst back to back years in the long history of the program.
Suddenly, the team is supposed to leap to 8 wins when they just finished last in their division. You’re nuts. UGA, UF, Missouri, SC, UK and Vandy are all ahead of UT.

With the schedule we have next year, this will be a common theme; we should get at least 8-9 wins or it's a failure of a season. I expect a bowl game next year anything else is icing on the cake. People need to settle in to the fact, it's going to be baby steps. Now, after 2019, I expect significant improvement, just going to a bowl game (6 wins) isn't going to cut the mustard. GBO!

We beat UK and should have beaten SC. We also beat Auburn. It could be argued that if certain players that reportedly didn't want to bother with extra practices for a bowl game, had played against Mizzou and Vandy like they did against UK and AU, that we could have won those games as well. Not buying that it takes six or eight years if we have the right coach.

The rebuild will start with a dominant Dand offensive line...which we see with this class.....and offense will be last. I'm enjoying this ride.

When is the question....next year....the year after....

Recruiting at the level of which we all believe will be much better.

Recruiting to the needs of the team is just now beginning. For years of which we all know this has not been done....Looked good, great rankings but this recruiting did not fill the holes of needs of the team and in some cases never even addressed those needs...Add to it development, S&C, and coaching were absent.

CJP is addressing these issues in a Methodical manner so if some are wanting Shake and Bake methods it will not work. We need to understand that this is a slow cook scenario.

Lightening will strike at some point and it all comes together.....when who knows, but it is a process. Hopefully last year we bottomed out and we were at Ground Zero....

Good point.
But Auburn & Ky were ahead of Tn this year and we beat them
I think good coaching during a game can give you about 7 points
per game. So, if the staff can coach good, that can be make the difference in a couple of game's
Notice Pearl took Peterson's roster and won immediately. It can be done thru coaching but you can't do miracles that way and go from 5 - 7 to 14 -0 by good coaching

Right now I’ll predict 7-5 next year and in 2020 get to 9-3. Cautiously optimistic in my opinion. Maybe by 2021 we get to 10-2 we will see....

In "no. 2",,,,, I am afraid beating Fla. regularly need to be in placed "no.3"

Next year I'm expecting #1 and hoping for #2 and have no hope for #3. If we get to number 2 next year, then we will be ahead of schedule and I'll feel better about CJP.

Your bragging that we beat UK and giving us the "we should've" beat SC...and then the "it's those couple of players" faults....that's the loser mentality I hope we get rid of first.....and whose saying it's going to take eight years?

We have Vandy and home next year. I hope we pour it on then and leave the fans soaking in their own tears
We got beat by Good QBs last year -- experienced. The exception was Auburn--we had a great game plan and the team played as it did often below average....
Vandy - Seniors. Missouri - QB. FL handed them the game. WV - Grier GA -- Just did enough but beat us. Alabama - Coasted. We lost the USCe game because of Coaching and the team began to see fatigued.

I came back and read this again, and I am not sold on your theory. CJP appears not be that kind of coach, I think he expects to get in the 8-9 wins next year and better the year after. He doesn't come across as the most patient person as it relates to Wins vs. Losses..........he is a players coach, but his expectations are just as high as Saban's. It wouldn't shock me if UT was 3-4 game better than last year.

I agree! The old saying champions are built on defense still holds true. It may not look that way but when you look at the final score but the team with the best defense usually wins. That score may be 54-52 or some such, but in the end, when looking back, the winners defense just did a little better. I know, I know "but neither defense was any good". But at the end of the year the best teams will usually have one of the better defenses in the country. The way I see it, is like a teacher "grading on a curve" no one learned much, but some did better than others!

My first goal for the team is qualify for a bowl game every year without exception

Then lose very, very few bowl, games

Then get to 8 wins every season.

From there, we can strike when Bama or UGA has an off year. We will already be in position
I would like y=to see us get to the point where others were saying they could "strike" when they got to point when Tennessee, Bama and Georgia had an off year....
