I thought '99 was a very disappointing year, given what UT returned, especially the Florida game. I still get mad thinking about how all night Brown was getting sacks and not once did they think to put a TE or anyone to double him. And I still get mad thinking we got an int that should have set the offense to drive down and kick the game winning FG. And I see that 4th and 3 where we ran some slow-butt developing hand-off that got jack squat.

2000 to me wasn't as bad because those first 3 SEC losses were all games we were in and definitely could have won. The LSU comeback was pretty good even though we lost in OT.

And yes, the 2001 SECC game was a real kick in the groin. It totally ruined what was in many ways would have been possibly as special a season as 1998. We were only 46 seconds from being undefeated going into the SECC game. We likely would have been destroyed by Miami in the Rose Bowl but I would have loved to find out, plus how cool would it have been to actually play in the Rose Bowl.

And we've never recovered from that awful night.

I know it's not when the "slide" started, but for me the lack of confidence in our coaching staff began with the Peach Bowl loss to Clemson. To add insult to injury, I went to the game with my next door neighbor who is a Clemson grad. God what a long ride home.
