The Present Could Destroy The Future

Just to add a little to the recruiting subject, we got Eric Berry ONLY because of family ties. We got Chris Donald ONLY because of in state family pressure. We were damn lucky to get them both. But, does anyone remember us losing Patrick Turner to USC? The NUMBER ONE receiver in America....and he leaves to go to California. You can NOT lose players like that and hope to win. Impossible.

yes and turner is sitting the bench right now he has
never cought on out there. what a shame we could
have used him this year.

and i agree with the tallent we had back in the manning
days if we would of had a sabin or carrol the sky would
have been the limit.

Great post Dr.
the only part i don't agree with is that "we might fall to a low point that we cant recover from".
My friend we are there. How in the hell can we recruit after this season? We will be lucky to go .500
If Hamilton doesn't replace Fulmer then he should go too.

I know it is sacreligious to mention Spurrier....but imagine what he would have done with our 1996 squad....Manning, Jamal, Peerless, Leonard...it would have been scary. He took an AVERAGE qb in Wuerffel and made him a Heisman winner.......

That is hard to argue with.

What I'm saying is I don't think anyone on UT's side is confident that Ainge can deliver that pass with accuracy and not throw an INT until that cast comes off. As I said, Peyton Manning said he couldn't do it... so how could Ainge?

EA delivered plenty of passes that made you forget there was a finger issue. I've also see former QB's state it is not a big deal when throwing (Flutie and Herbstreit)

If we get a proven and charismatic coach, and Al Wilson (big name in football... but I know he probably at this point will still probably be trying to get back in the NFL after his neck lets him pass a physical) and some guys to sway a kids mind... the campus sells itself. It is consistently seen as one of the best atmospheres to play in. The facilities are excellent. If a kid can see where LSU was 8 years ago, and where it is now, and they don't think UT can be in the same shape? They're crazy. They know the SEC is basically a pipeline to the NFL. I don't worry, but if Fulmer stays at the head, I don't think HE can pull them in anymore. The school? I don't worry about the school.

I tend to agree about the recruting. I am not convinced as yet that Weiss is they great coach everyone here in ND country seems to think he is. However ND did get a lot of top level recruits. Now I for one am glad they UT doesnt turn on their coaches as quickly as ND. However if something major doesnt happen to turn this season around Fulmer needs to be out.

If you go back and look at the TOTAL roster on the 1996 team....and also look at the NFL picks on that team....I honestly feel that talent wise it was one of the greatest teams in college football history. We didnt even win a conference title. I think it is also safe to assume that we will never have another Manning type player at qb.....or another back like Jamal Lewis....or probably another linebacker like Al Wilson. These are once in a lifetime players. If we couldnt accomplish anything with those players then what does that say about this staff? Honestly?

Herbstreit put on a finger cast and tried to throw and couldn't effectively and said as such at the Cal game.

It certainly affected McCown's game this weekend for the Raiders.

Post on Mannings visit where he tried the brace:
Manning visited players before game : Football : GoVolsXtra.com

Bear in mind... everyone is different. I think if it did bother Ainge, nothing would be said about it. It's all speculation at this point, but it would make sense if it is bothering him more than what is being made out in the press. I know the only time I've seen him throw deep was to a wide open Lucas Taylor, and that was only 30 some odd yards.

Not true. He was Knoxville-bound all the way. He just wisely took advantage of the opportunity to reassure himself with other visits.

Despite what scout.com was saying about him and Notre Dame, I want to say that I heard that somewhere else. He was smart to play the field though. Which makes me think why we haven't seen Donald on the field much. You would think they'd have tried a 3-4 with him in between Mayo and McCoy. I think it would be smart to let the 3 of those start building a rhythm this year, going into next year. The 3 of them could be the among the best LB trios in the SEC, based on talent.

Good idea. Or they could go ahead and redshirt him. According to the Game Participation reports on utsports.com, he hasn't seen the field at all this year (not even special teams). Another year to hit the weights might make a big difference.

I say let the kid start building instincts.

Donald has been moved to DE

From what I understand, that was temporary. When Ben Martin twinged his knee, they moved him then. When they found out it was just a sprain, I'm pretty sure they moved him back to LB. He's still on the roster as an LB.

That was the plan. I don't know if he's been moved back.

Regardless, Savion Frazier has been better than Donald or Walker in practice according to the coaches.

And he's still not traveling with the team (meaning Redshirt) regardless of where he plays

Give the ball to Berry? Our Harvin? I know the defense is in the toilet but why not give the ball to our best players. Just a thought.

Now back to the originally scheduled program already in progress....
