Picked up Athlon's, Lindy's, and Sporting News on the way through the Charlotte airport today. Here's what they have to say about UT:

Athlon's- 25th nationally, 3rd in the SEC East.
Lindy's- 12th nationally, 2nd in the SEC East.
Sporting News- 22nd nationally, 3rd in the SEC East.

You agree with those hat? I do think we'll be 2nd in the East, but feel like we might be ranked nationally a little low. I know we lost a lot off of last year's team, and have a lot to prove, but feel like this team may shock people like last year's did.

Until we show something, nobody's really going to go out on a limb for us. We simply don't know until we see the blend, the freshmen and offseason work show through.

I don't think Florida and Kentucky will both finish ahead of Tennessee in the SEC. Tennessee has a very wide range they could fall in nationally. Wouldn't go crazy about someone putting them 12th, wouldn't say much about someone putting them 32nd.

They'll still be the soft, live and die by the 3 team they've been the last 3 years.

They've upgraded. Donovan will still let them play as they wish, but if one of the new guys can play the Al Wilson role, they'll improve.

Florida will underachieve. Kentucky will not be as dominant as last year in the regular season. Tennessee will be the class of the East because of Tobias, Scotty, Cam and a much improved Williams. A nice mix of the seasoned and the new.

I miss arguing with hat...

It's not even October and the "This Is The Year Hopson Breaks Out" silliness has already begun.

Thank you. Dale Ellis was an afterthought until his junior year. He was terrible.

Dale Ellis made a shot to win an NCAA Tournament game at the buzzer as a soph. How'd Hopson do with his opportunity to put UT ahead from the foul line at the end of the Michigan State game? It's alright, though. You'll get to say the same thing about Hopson "breaking out" next September.

You do realize Ellis averaged almost 18 points per as a soph, don't you? It would have been a great point had it remotely been accurate.

I thought it was his junior year. I was wrong. Are you going on record that Hopson will average less than 18 this year?

I don't think there's anyway Hopson averages 18 this year or his senior year. Then we won't even be able to compare him to yarbrough because he did average over 18 his senior year.

I hate seeing players not live up to their potential, I really hope he does. Not holding my breath though...
