The Phil Fulmer buyout countdown

Lately, it's been the timing of the game. It's the last of the big games on the schedule, and there's only a month of season left after it.

Yeah I know, but '92 was a pretty unique situation with CJM's heart surgery and CPF's interim success.

We lose 3 consecutive games in a supposed rebuilding year. Lose by 1 point on the last play (2 pt conversion attempt) of the SC game and CJM gets shown the door after 16 seasons.

In retrospect it seems pretty extreme compared to the current situation here going back to 2005 when we were preseason #3 and finished 5-6 with the home loss to Vandy.

Don't forget Hamilton, Pearl, and Raleigh the ex-baseball coach.

Hamilton is the doofus that caused this financial mess. One thing that should be done, though it won't be, would be to call Hamilton in to renegotiate part of his buyout. Yes, the contract is binding but that doesn't mean it cannot be renegotiated. Most especially, the part of the contract that apparently gives him use of a skybox, rent-free. Since that skybox is a revenue generator, something on the order of $30,000 per year, the university should ask him to renegotiate at least that part of the contract and pay at least half of the annual rental, especially given the financial condition of the UTAD and very low reserves. Not to mention the fact that the financial condition is directly a result of his malfeasance in passing out the lucre to departed coaches. And, the press should be used to publicize the efforts to get back part of the skybox revenue stream from him. Hamilton isn't even a UT grad so why does he need the skybox? We need a little advocacy journalism here on this issue.
