The Opera-singing cell phone guy

Paul Potts won the competition. Even has his own website now. This is a great story and he definitely has an outstanding voice.

Outstanding is definitely stretching it. His technique is bad, his low range is lacking, he has no "ping" or depth to his voice, his high notes are forced and closed off, his italian is sketchy at times and he doesn't sing the correct note values from time to time..

Other than that, he's ok.

I thought it was GREAT and although I realize I know nothing about opera, anybody that can make me listen to opera 4 times in a row is definitely doing something right.

Well, I'm glad that you all enjoyed it at least. If you ever want to hear the great voices singing that aria, let me know and I'll send you a cd.

Yeah, there are some things are youtube, but the sound is bad since people are playing their stereos(and in some cases, their gramophones) into their computer microphones. I'll look around tomorrow and see what I can find. I'm going back to bed right now though.

OWB, you have to admit something. The guy probably has zero training. Nobody sings opera well without training.

Show some heart, operaman.

My god, notice the Aerosmith music in the background. I've never found something on television so hilarious yet repulsive at the same time.

Actually, I looked him up and he's in Wikipedia. He has a fair bit of training and some experience with amateur opera companies. To some degree, I think his appearance as the mild mannered cell phone guy, out of whom comes this shocking voice, was a bit contrived by him.

Not that it didn't work, mind you.

Milo, you just don't up and sing arias such as "Nessun Dorma".. It's not like he woke up one morning and just started singing it. So I'm sure he's had some training, just not the right kind in my opinion.

But like everyone else has said, it's a good story. Didn't he win like $200,000 for that? I hope he has good money managing skills because when that dries up, it's back to selling cell phones..

I tried to change it to say "OperaMod" too, but for some reason it wouldn't update.
