The Official Wright State @ #17 Tennessee Series Thread (Fri. March 6 6:30PM ET) (Sat. March 7 3PM ET) (Sun. March 8 1PM ET) (All games SECNET+)

I was impressed with Wright St , they battled every pitch and every inning , good defense and base running , their approach at the plate was a lot better than ours , when 2/3’s of your lineup is struggling it’s gonna get ugly starting next weekend if they can’t figure it out , I think E has done a pretty good job so far , I’d have liked to seen a few pinch hitters today at least Bates ,Myatt and AA

Yes but the staff told him he wasn’t welcome back after he wasn’t drafted. With up to 6 DSAs, they could (and should) have found room for him. He’s already hit 5 HRs, batting .419, 1.419 OPS, and 14 RBIs in only 8 games at NC State. He can play both corner outfield positions, both corner infield, DH, and even Catch. With UT’s inexperience (13th in SEC), I don’t understand why CTV didn’t find a spot for him. By all accounts, he was a good teammate and clubhouse guy.
Was that a whole staff decision or just a Tony decision? Would think Elander could see the value in having a guy like Bargo in your lineup

I’m sure Tony consulted the staff but ultimately it was his decision. Most of his decisions were spot on, but he missed badly on Bargo (and starting the Auburn game during a thunderstorm). He’s still the best coach I’ve ever seen on Rocky Top.

You just don’t win at a high level with youth and inexperience.

You do realize how many talented teams are struggling with mid majors. At least our 3 losses our to 2 teams that will challenge for regional. Few teams playing great baseball few.
'for sure....Arkansas lost today to Stetson. Not sure they are even a mid-major. How Hogs are ranked 6th idk. They've lost to UT Arlington and Ark St....be interesting to see where they are ranked after today's loss. Baseball collegiately is getting like the others sports...just to much talent to go around and you give a mid-major 6-7 senior guys who've played together and throw in a couple of decent pitchers...then you have a challenge on any given day.

I liked Bargo when he was going good he was really good but his struggles were really bad too , I think we have talent in the dugout but with league play just around the corner I’m not sure how many chances their gonna get

I agree....It played out in an odd way for sure. I agree with Josh post-game quote..."I'm sending him there 99 out of 100 times". It took a perfect throw and "catch" (unbelievable really) to complete that play.
E has always been aggressive sending guys , I wouldn’t have sent Levi there with my 3 hitter on deck , we’ve got to get better at getting runners on in front of our best hitters , Ford smoked that ball straight at the left fielder , the only thing that made it close was the throw was 10 feet up the line

That may be true but this team is hitting poorly against teams they shouldn’t be struggling against consistently. It’s one thing to lose because you are pitching your 4-5th best starter but it’s quite another to get out hit quite frequently. You also have a new coach and we have no idea if he is even capable of fixing it so it’s a much different situation
Listen to his presser today. E has seen enough of the weak inconsistent hitting.

Yeah it definitely worked out for Wright St. Doubt it would work like that again all year but it took some momentum away. I have always been in favor of aggressiveness as well (unless it’s the 1st or 3rd out at 3rd base)

Coaching 3rd is hard and even harder when your team is struggling to score runs and no one gets it right every time , I mean you don’t have all day to make a decision , I in all honesty wouldn’t have sent Ensley in Omaha either but that won us a championship

Good points …. baseball sabermetrics are all about percentages I suppose. It’s one reason I love the game and probably one reason why some folks don’t. 😀

Also, Antigua had a pretty decent weekend all things considered (especially compared to Newstrom and Abernathy)
He’s definitely hitting on a flatter plane so far. In post game Josh was talking about the swing plane by several of our hitters today which created so many pop ups. It was driving me crazy during the entire series. And we seem to hit from behind in the count continuously. He mentioned that as well. When we take a middle middle strike on the first or second pitch we generally wind up having the hit the pitchers pitch which we seem to do all weekend. Josh committed to getting that worked out this week.

its going to be a rough season. there will be as many highs as lows this year on the way to maybe a little over a .500 record. Elander does not have things right over there at the moment, for his sake he better figure it out real quick
