I haven’t seen Myatt’s splits but he does seem to hit RHP better. I have been impressed with his defense at 2B and his pinch hitting has obviously been exceptional. I could see a platoon at 2B where Myatt starts against RHP and Abernathy (or Finley Bates or Antigua or Newstrom) if any of them heats up) starts against LHP. I think Lawless will be the Sunday DH when Clark catches Blanco but perhaps you’d use Myatt as DH on Sundays against tough RHP and leverage Lawless off the bench.Hey TaylorVol got a question for ya since you seem pretty locked in to all things UT baseball , what’s you take on Myatt , I personally think he should be getting more at bats against right hand pitching as DH or second base , with our offensive struggles I’d love for E to do more platooning at several positions , I know platooning is not a normal thing in college but I think it could help us and at least get guys regular at bats
To a lesser degree, I think UT still rotates for best matchups at LF and DH. I’m sure Abernathy will receive another shot to claim CF or 2B…Hey TaylorVol got a question for ya since you seem pretty locked in to all things UT baseball , what’s you take on Myatt , I personally think he should be getting more at bats against right hand pitching as DH or second base , with our offensive struggles I’d love for E to do more platooning at several positions , I know platooning is not a normal thing in college but I think it could help us and at least get guys regular at bats
Thanks , it’s hard enough to hit a baseball for every day guys and really difficult if your only getting 1 ab a weekend , I agree Stone has to be in there somewhere for now the way he’s swinging the bat , my biggest take on Myatt is when he hits it on the barrel it’s rarely being caught , we may have 3 other guys that fit this category Ford , Brown , Levi and Myatt have game changing exit veloI haven’t seen Myatt’s splits but he does seem to hit RHP better I have been impressed with his defense at 2B and his pinch hitting has obviously been exceptional. Indeed. It’s been similar to when Clark catches. Myatt has been superb as a pinch hitter but not as a starter. I hope it’s just a small sample size as it would be huge if Myatt could claim 2B by hitting like he does as a pinch hitter. On Myatt, I don't know the stats but I was told his numbers when starting are crazy low compared to when he PH's. Again, just going off someone who normally knows their stuff. But he would PH for me once a game in tight situations.
Nice report, frye. Thank you!Last night was in no way what I was expecting.
* The Spartans were a good offensive teams that had no problems putting up runs - even in blow out losses. They put up 14 runs in three games at Texas.
* The Vols hit the ball hard and right at guys more than I ever remember. It felt like we hit it the 2nd baseman 30 times. ( I looked and it was only five.) Upstate earned 11 ground ball outs and Tennessee only got 6.
* Upstate's outfielders were REALLY good at cutting off balls in the gaps.
* Despite a lot walks Tennessee held the Spartans to a season low 2 runs. So we remember the walks but outside that, the staff did well. They gave up no hits until 3rd (2 hits). After the first, the Vols only gave up 2 walks and got 10 strikeouts.
* After Newstrom beat out the double play, the coach really needed to change pitchers as three quality lefties were up next. I said to friends in stands that Newstrom would likely be this guy's last batter.
It didn't take long for Grimmer to make me look like a prophet.
* Blaine Brown did well in that double RBI at bat. he swung wildly at the low first pitch but avoided swinging that pitch the rest of the AB. BB when he avoids that low pitch is VERY difficult to pitch to. He saw three straight balls and then smacked the ball hard to right center.
* Levi Clark's walk in the 9th was one of his best ABs as a Vol. KBBBFFFFFB. Five straight fouls. He was out in FC but that was a great AB
* Garrett Wright had been fairly clutch lately. he was not tonight.
* Tennessee left seven on base. It felt like more. But we left the bases loaded once.
* Vols only had one XB hit. It was timed well. They struck out five times and walked four.
Good stuff! Both Brown and Clark are starting to be more selective at the plate.Last night was in no way what I was expecting.
