The Vols improved to 23-7-2 all-time vs. South Carolina, including 15-2 at Neyland Stadium, with a 23-21 win over the No. 11-ranked Gamecocks on Oct. 19. South Carolina was also ranked No. 9 in the USA Today Coaches' Poll.
Michael Palardy's 19-yard field goal as the clock expired was the first game-winning kick for UT since James Wilhoit's 50-yarder to beat Florida on Sept. 18, 2004.
It was the first win over a ranked opponent, and the first SEC win in October, since Oct. 31, 2009 vs. South Carolina (31-13), ending a streak of 19 consecutive losses to ranked teams starting with the Chick-fil-a Bowl loss to Virginia Tech on Dec. 31, 2009.
The victory also makred the first win over a Top 15-ranked opponent since Oct. 27, 2007 vs. South Carolina (27-24).
It was the first win over a USA Today Coaches' Poll Top 10-ranked opponent since a 51-33 win over No. 10 Georgia on Oct. 7, 2006 in Athens.
Tennessee has a winning record (4-3) through its first seven games for the first time since 2007 (4-3).
