The Official NKU @ Tennessee Game Thread (Tues. 4/7 6PM ET SECNET+)

Know it was midweek, but how was the crowd in comparison to other midweek games this year?
NKU 4/7 - 5814 66 degrees Clear
Peay 3/31 - 6647 78 degrees Sunny
SCUS 3/24 - 5977 64 degrees Clear
EKU 3/17 - 5647. 39 degrees Sunny

Almost seems to be a function of distance to visiting team’s campus. Weather?

Are we likely starting Grimmer at 2nd this weekend?
I’m gonna say no since Levi is gonna catch two games probably , I know Levi continues to struggle offensively but he’s got to catch right now , I haven’t seen Grindlinger do anything at first base

I bet we see Wright at C on Fri and Sat and Clark only on Sun catching Blanco per usual. Assume last night’s lineup will happen on Friday night at least.

If you look at Levi’s SEC stats, he’s better than most. We need someone at 2nd base that can hit.

Seems like we gave up on Newstrom pretty quick. Yet Brown continues to stay in the lineup.
I think Brown will absolutely rake next season after gaining 20lbs of muscle, improving his pitch selection, and getting more reps against SEC pitching. His upside is tremendous. Newstrom is an enigma as I thought he would end up a middle of the order hitter.

I sure do hope you're right! Bolded part is key or none of the other stuff even matters. Have never seen someone swing at so many off speed pitches in the dirt. Definitely struggles to pick up the spin. Can absolutely destroy the ball when he gets the right pitch, though. Will keep rooting for him, of course, and expect him to figure it out!

To be fair, though, lack of plate discipline has been an issue across the entire lineup.

Solid connections.
The weather was a postscript edit. I went back and added conditions and temperature for each game. That seems to have had more to do with the number of butts in seats, to me anyway. Those are not shabby crowds for mid week games, especially during a moderately successful season. The A’s would have loved those crowds back in Oakland! 😉

We've seen what we're wanting with Brown before with B. Burke (although the weight changes might have been the inverse 😆).

He was in the SOUP going through his sophomore season but as the season went on he gradually got better and better at taking pitches and waiting for what he wanted. He hit that church in Hattiesburg and it was on from there.

It can happen.

Yes. I was there in Hattiesburg and never seen anything like that Burke Bomb that hit the church. It was an absolute blast!

I’m not sure Wright is ready to catch 2 out of 3 games , Taylor is more locked in than I am , Grimmer has been ok at second base , I know 2/3’s of our lineup has struggled mightily the last 3 weekends , Ford is under 200 in league play , he’s really struggled since being sick and started the team epidemic of chasing bad pitches , Brown reminds me of Burke as a sophomore who chased a ton of bad pitches , this weekend could be ugly if our guys can’t get it together , we’re 4-8 and could easily be 8-4 with some better bullpen work or better offense
