The Official Missouri @ #21 Tennessee Series Thread (Fri. 3/20 6:30PM ET) (Sat. 3/21 6PM ET) (Sun. 3/22 1PM ET) (All games SECN+)

As things stand at this moment, the Vols are going to only be a game out by tonight. SEC is going to be really bunched up this year, or so it appears.
Our ability to finish in the upper half on the standings is going to depend on:

1. Our ability to win series/get sweeps at home
2. Avoid getting swept on the road (and preferably win a road series or two)

I agree with Kuhns assessment, he really looks good as long as no one gets on base but he simply can’t pitch himself out of trouble and it seems to happen quickly no matter what inning it is , hopefully he can grow and learn to pitch out of trouble , Mack and Blanco tend to lock in with runners on base , Appenzeller has been really good in his role as a reliever but we’ve not seen him go more than 3 innings , his upside is incredible if he can stay healthy

I rarely post over the weekend, and while I want to angrily rant about the attendance and premium nonsense, I just want it noted Henry Ford is an absolute warrior. I know he was sick during the week, and didn’t look like he felt great all weekend…but answered the bell every single inning. By the late innings today the guy was absolutely spent. In the bottom of the 8th after his AB, he sat on the bench looking like he was about to pass out or lose his lunch. I haven’t seen a kid look that miserable in a long, long time. Still got up and went to the field T9.

I had my run with that virus a couple weeks ago…playing in the bright sun and 80s had to be miserable.

If you believe the game pays you back, sometime in the next week or two he’s gonna go on a scorching hot streak.

UTs ability to secure elite portal transfers at 3B continues:

1) Zane Denton (Alabama)
2) Billy Amick (Clemson)
3) Henry Ford (Virginia)

If Kuhns doesn’t show the ability to consistently give you 6 quality innings in Nashville, I move to the following rotation the following weekend:
Fri. Mack followed by Arvidson
Sat. Appenzeller followed by Krenzel
Sun Blanco followed by Frederick and Rhudy
Kuhns needs to pitch to contact more to keep his pitch count lower

The lineup Saturday was wild with Grimmer at 2B and Clark at 1B. I didn't expect that at all but like it because you can get Grindlinger in at DH. I like Levi a whole lot better catching and maybe you DH Stone a little more? Only problem there is you are are stuck with Newstrom or Abernathy at 2B and neither are having good ABs.

The biggest issue now is how can you get a consistent OPB guy at the leadoff spot. I have no idea who to put there now after the weekend. Wright is a great 5 or 6 hole. Grimmer has too much swing and miss to be there.

I am ready for USuC-Up State.

But I am still really excited about winning this Mizzou series. One more celebratory post.

Any SEC series win is a plus, doesn’t matter who the opponent, or home or away. They don’t come easy, and you have to earn it and pitch and catch well. Timely hitting helps too. Go Vols! Beat Vandy!
