The Official ECU @ Tennessee (Chapel Hill Regional Game Thread) (Fri. May 29) (NOON ET) (ESPNU)

Some of us worked hard to get to where we are and have seen plenty of people lose it all over mistakes. I wish nasty tweets and death threats from 12 year olds was the worst part. People die in construction.. I’ll be impressed when OSHA fines a baseball player.

But again, we get used to it after so many years.
I’m not really sure what you mean, I also work in Construction and I’m not sure how that relates to athletes being stressed about performing well enough? I don’t live stream my builds or watch the best companies in the world build their projects either….but hundreds of thousands(or millions time in to watch our teams full of kids who were just given it all I guess. OSHA has fined plenty of baseball players after they stopped playing and started working the trades 😂

This Vols baseball team has a unique ability of inventing new ways to lose games they should win and ripping our hearts out in the process.
Ahhh but just look how many games we just found a way to come back and win . It's not always gloom and doom it's baseball and most games you truly have to wait until the last out to truly celebrate. We've seen one of the greatest come backs in the sport a grand slam in the bottom of the 9th to win by one run with 2 outs . If you keep watching baseball you'll see many more won and lost in the last innings. GBO 💥 🍊

Other than Reese and Henry, they don’t really have a great group of upperclassmen leaders who know how to win. The Gilbert, beck, CMO, Burke, Dreiling, Fisher, Doyle types just aren’t on this team in a high enough quantity.

Last years team struggled with this too even with fish and Doyle. Not enough complimentary pieces. I think this crop of transfer pitchers was a total bust specifically the bullpen arms. Brady Frederick was supposed to be a huge get.

The sophomore class has also not lived up to expectations. Abernathy regressed. Clark fell off the face of the earth. A few others aren’t even playing much that were supposed to be starters by now.

I fail to see any point being made here. Congrats on your work? What do you want?

I can break down my original argument if it helps..
Baseball = job.
Any employment = job.

Job = expectations and challenges.
Expectations and challenges = risk of failure.
failure = consequences.
Consequences = Stressful.

Clark has been a stud in SEC play. What are you talking about?

It' not the BP. We just can't hit the baseball well enough to win in regulation today. We still have an even chance, but I am going to cut the grass or something. What will be, ill be.
Late getting back to this, but yeah bats certainly couldn’t make anything happen, but while Blanco and Rhudy had GREAT outings, our lack of experienced depth showed its ugly face in the bottom of the 14th.

My whole point was it’s annoying when I see people undermine athletes for being paid and use their own work to justify it.

But apparently we’re just agreeing on the same thing now

I’m frustrated bc I love watching Tennessee baseball and I want to see as much of it as I can. I’m not upset at the players (though I wish we hit it just a bit) or the coaches. Truth is E looks like a postseason genius if we hit at all bc we use 2 pitchers through 8. It’s not coach worshiping to say he can’t swing the bat for them. He can’t. At some point the players have to and they’ve shown they’re capable. It’s also not fair to think these guys didn’t fight their tails off bc they did.

We just didn’t have it today. I’m not sure ECU did either but they had more of something than we did. We just need to hope for a miracle. This team has performed best when they were up against it all year.
@Volpatine excellent post.

I would encourage our diehards to read Coach Godwin's comments ( if they have a chance). His comments tell you so much about love of the game and finding joy in the process. He makes it clear it's not always about winning.

Their pitcher Antolick ( who got the win I think) has had two hip surgeries and takes shots in his hips to deal with the pain. He missed two months of the season ( unclear if this year or last).

A great read about love of the game. Knowing that Stone and Reese are playing with facial fractures puts everything in perspective.

Play hard. Respect the game. Respect the players. Find joy in the process!

Great post, Inner Excellence is a great book (recommended by Reese Chapman) that focuses on the process over the results. That mindset really helped to transform his game.
