Social media is a cesspool. It’s filled to the brim with negativity. It’s basically an outlet for the loudest voices to say whatever they want with no repercussions. I try to ignore the opinions spewed there, and hopefully those in the athletic department and our student athletes are able to do the same. Easier said than done though considering many folks will go out of their way to tag the specific player or coach in hopes of them seeing it.
Directed at you both. Just because I disagree sometimes (especially about comments blaming football) doesn't mean I don't take seriously what you post or that I haven't learned a lot from you. I especially think back to '22 when more than once you explained how flukey and unpredictable baseball could be and that being the best team doesn't guarantee a title. That was for the newbies. It saved me from melting down at the end of the season, although I was heartbroken. I had learned beforehand. You obviously knew a lot about the sport and I believed you weeks in advance. About that and a lot of other nuggets about the game and what to notice.I’m not sure if directed at me or just cardvol but the more baseball fans the better. Thanks for the nice words. I could do a better job myself with not getting as worked up on gameday over the finer details, but hey that’s why they call us “fanatics”.
We’re lucky to have the coaching staff that we do. We’ll need fans from a lot of different generations to keep this train rolling. It’s a fun sport. I hope the younger crowd stays invested.
0/8 I repeat ZERO of the teams that made Omaha last year will be there this year. Let that sink in. That unpredictability makes college baseball so unique and great. What Tony is doing is otherworldly.I’m seeing folks complaining, whining, moaning, and criticizing Tennessee baseball and athletic programs on social media. That’s really unfathomable, disingenuous, and totally stupid. I swear, I think people are just not very bright. They really should follow another team or teams. Thank you, fellas, for a great season and for being great human beings.
Funny thing is the before 2021, the baseball forum got very minimal moderation at all. Then when we got to the Wright State game, the dam burst. lol This was the civilized forum. In some ways, I miss those days a lot. But I wouldn’t trade today’s enthusiasm of Vol baseball for those days.Directed at you both. That was back in the days of more aggressive moderation, and a higher percentage of all posters were clearly knowledgeable and explaining all sorts of details. Or discussing them between one another; and if a newbie has ears to hear...! There's at least a dozen people like this here that I'm beholden to. And nobody reamed me for asking questions, I guess because they knew I really wanted to know and asked, and I was mostly cheering and not downing our guys, and not pretending to know things I didn't know. It's a good board. A free education for people who pay attention to the right things from the most knowledgeable. Maybe google up phrases and terms one hears from people in the know but don't know oneself. I brought a love of the Vols. It was already fun for that reason. It gets more interesting and more fun the more I learn. So many subtleties.
…still think we should post a bounty on negas and trolls and open season…Funny thing is the before 2021, the baseball forum got very minimal moderation at all. I know it wasn't directed at me but my .02Preacher, with the Arky talk spinning up again, just curious your thoughts on how likely you think Tony taking that job would be? I’m not sure I see it happening, but I can’t say it doesn’t give me concern with how glowingly he talks about them whenever it comes up.
I think the only place he would go would be in the SEC and it would be a large amount of money and a chance to win the first national championship would be more incentive He is happy at Tennessee and I think something would have to happen for him to leave. He has definitely earned the right to run the program the way he wants and I think if that was ever questioned that could be the determining factor. It worries me that he has questioned the fan base support several times throughout this year and that’s why I continually bring it up whether that is on social media, in person, or on here. I know people will say he needs tough skin but it gets tiring to hear people question you when you are the best there has ever been.Preacher, with the Arky talk spinning up again, just curious your thoughts on how likely you think Tony taking that job would be? Just judging by how Tony talks about Arky and even getting emotional last night talking about people over there he came up with, it does seem like the Arky job is sort of a Kiffin "dream Job, sorry, have to take it" scenario for Tony. Van Horn will be 65 next season, he's getting up there. If they win a Natty, wouldn't be shocked if he rides off into the sunset. I'm just gonna try to go ahead and get used to the idea that he is going to take that job when it opens, not if. We all know he will be their first call. Unless we scrap LNS and build a stadium to rival theirs and call it Tony Vitello Field, I think he's gone. Not trying to be negative, it's just the vibes I get.
This is why I will be cheering for DVH to win a natty this year. It will take away much of the allure of the Ark job. Or even better, for DVH to win one in a few years from now.I think the only place he would go would be in the SEC and it would be a large amount of money and a chance to win the first national championship would be more incentive He is happy at Tennessee and I think something would have to happen for him to leave. Whoo boy. That is putting my feelings in a bind. I have always disliked Arky more than anybody else because of the way they treated our '22 team with the false allegations and the way Arky disrespected baseball in the process of all the crying and slandering talk. Tony is so much more respectful of other teams and of baseball as a whole than those fans. They are nasty jealous types imo. This is why I will be cheering for DVH to win a natty this year. He’s probably the favorite but Wes Johnson could be a candidate too since he’s from Arkansas and was a former assistant under DVH. Of course a lot can change in 5 years or whenever he decides to hang it up.I talked a little earlier today with a friend who is a HUGE Arkansas baseball fan. His exact words to me were that when DVH retires Matt Hobbs will be the next head coach of the Hogs. Just take it for what it’s worth I guess
