Ament doesn’t have the shooting ability or foot quickness to play 3. That’s a pipe dream. Not necessarily. His position is the 3 and not many teams have a 3 that size. OKC, Spurs, Pistons, Celtics are the top 2 in each conference. None start a player his height at the 3. The Spurs and Celtics don’t even have one that tall at the 4.
I think the bigger issue is our offensive system. I watch UConn, Illinois, Michigan, Purdue, Arizona and the offenses are just free flowing and they seem to always generate good shots. I feel like we have to rely on like you said shot makers vs a system to get everyone involved.Unlike football, in basketball offense, not defense, wins you championships. We have got to get more scorers on our roster.
I looked into their high school recruiting profiles. Both were a 97 on ESPN, but Smith weighed 25 lbs more (both at 6’ - 9”). Ament has put on quite a bit of weight though. I don’t really care one way or the other what his draft position is. I want him to come back and try to develop his body a bit more so I can watch him for another year. I’ll never buy NBA league pass.Valid comp. Smith shot 42 from 3 vs Aments 34. That means Ament is like 20 percent more likely to miss his shot than Smith would be. Watching the two play not only was Smith much more physically ready but he was light years ahead as a shooter and way more athletic and useful in transition etc.
