The Official #23 Tennessee [6] vs. #3 Michigan [1] Game Thread, 2:15 PM ET, CBS

If you are comparing a 24 year old DK to a 19 Ament, you don’t have any of the common sense. Not even a comparison…lol.
Ok if we limit to one and done shooters. Reed Sheppard shot 53% in college then 35 and 42 in first two NBA seasons. Why didn’t he improve? I can list a dozen more. Jarad McCain. Rob Dillingham. Gradey Dick. It’s not a given you will improve. Gradey Dick is a good comp and he did go 13th but he shot 40% in college and 34 career in pros.

Having to play 3 straight one seeds is tough. When Loyola Chicago went to the FF, Virginia lost to UMBC in the first ever 1-16 upset. Illinois got to avoid Florida and play Iowa. I respect the Hawkeyes, but I think we would’ve beaten them.

It just feels like we can’t catch a break and when we do, we don’t take advantage of it. I’m happy with the season but not satisfied. I want a freaking Final Four and a 💍 we’ve been knocking on the 🚪 with nothing to show for it. We’re like the Bills of college 🏀 except we don’t have a Josh Allen 😆

DK had a lot of flash games his rookie year. He also went to one of the most dysfunctional franchises since covid with an old ass Lebron driving the roster and coaching decisions.

Let's not act like DK had a stable front office and locker room to walk into. The thing I hate most is that dumbass from Dallas Nico Harrison backed off his request to add DK to the Luka trade.
So what stable front office and locker room is Ament headed to? I’m not picking on Knecht at all. He’s been in an unfortunate situation. It’s just crazy to think a 34% 3 pt shooter with no mid range and no rim presence will magically grow into Kevin Durant. NBA gms are smarter than you think. Nico managed to get Flagg ‘after all that’. They arent using a lottery pick on a project unless he’s at least an 7’2 African. Also Knecht showed legit NBA range in college. Aments hit some nice corner threes but not shown much from the logo like Gillespie. The three point line is a bit further back in the NBA. And you gotta get open. If he’s no threat under the rim they can sag off on defense.

Literally every team in the top 15 outside of Charlotte, Portland, and Chicago are pretty much low drama. The best spot for Ament to wind up would be Golden State. Even Miami would be good suitor for projecting current teams in lottery.

It is just amazing you are somehow dying on this hill that Ament who everyone projects and scouts as a lottery pick are wrong and that he shouldn't be anywhere close to a lottery pick.....

Its comical really on a day where we shouldn't be laughing because of that beatdown. So I think you for the distraction.

I’d argue the aforementioned Mavs,Kings,Grizzlies and Hawks all have current and recent drama but that’s unpredictable. It’s funny tho. I think you nailed it. Maybe this is my own way of dealing with the loss and staying distracted. I really don’t care where or when he gets drafted I have no control over that. I’ve just watched enough mock drafts be proven foolish for like 40 years now. I’m not hating on Ament. I hope he’s an NBA all star. But honestly if I were a GM I’d not take him top 20 and I think a lot of people here will be surprised when he falls on draft day. They’ll say ESPN hates us or blame someone but maybe I’m wrong. Maybe he goes top 5. You’re welcome.

All I know is I'm so disappointed with the team effort and the piss poor job the refs did of calling a fair game. Oh well, the year is over and it's onto some football again. Hope Josh has us ready to play this fall! Go Vols.

I think it worked out fine. Did it work out like we all thought it would pie in the sky scenario? No. but was it anywhere near a failure or bust? No chance at all. I would sign up for 6'10" 5 star with production like that every year if I had the choice.
Coaches may be rethinking value after Ament. You have 4 mill to spend, do you buy Nate or 3 experienced players like Jacoby that can hit the ground running. This year was a great example. We had a huge backline including Phillips and we needed to replace all of our guards. We were after several guards and missed, assuming it was money. We could not overcome the lack of 3 point shooting and ball handling capability all season.

As a lifelong Mavs fan, it is sad to see the dysfunction they have seen since Cuban sold out. But the Adelson regime putting the guy that fumbled Steph Curry's Nike deal in charge of the team was awful. Hopefully rumor of Cuban trying to get team back is true.

Did he really say that? Dang, you gotta win a few things first.
Maybe I misunderstood, but I believe he alluded to the fact that 3 straight elite 8 appearances put you in blue blood territory. Now, I certainly agree 3 straight appearances is really good, only a handful of other teams have been to 3 straight appearances, but you have to do better than 0-4 in the elite 8 appearances.

I don’t believe you get 3 like Jakobi for $4 million. It’s been said that he took a discount to come home. Sounded like Rice and McNeeley were over $2 million each.

Michigan has 6 players with a better 3 pt percentage than Ament. I don’t get why people think he’s a great shooter. He has the stroke. Could eventually be a sniper but he hasn’t showed that just yet. I’m cool with 4 mill on him tho and I’d do it again. Was worth the gamble considering his entire skill set and the possible payoff. I don’t think it’s worth a 40 mill gamble and a lottery pick for an NBA team tho when they have so many other options.

Dybantsa, Peterson, Boozer, Wilson, Acuff will probably be the 🔝 5 in some order. Then you have Flemings, Burries, Mikel Brown, Ament, Philon in that tier 2 of players.

Philon came back for his sophomore year and will be a late lottery-mid first selection. Nate’s probably going to leave but next year’s class will be much more tolerable than this year’s gauntlet.

Just because DK hasn’t made it, doesn’t mean Ament won’t. DK is on a team that doesn’t give him a chance.

The one stat that the NBA will love is Ament’s rebounding numbers. It shows he’s willow to bang and go after the ball. At 6’10”’ he can get his shot over anyone. His weakness is his lack of explosiveness, but he’s a perfect build for the NBA. He has several years to improve.
He’ll be guarded by 6’10” guys as quick if not quicker than him.

Not necessarily. His position is the 3 and not many teams have a 3 that size. OKC, Spurs, Pistons, Celtics are the top 2 in each conference. None start a player his height at the 3. The Spurs and Celtics don’t even have one that tall at the 4.

These refs are a crime against humanity. The game was almost unwatchable. Every game up to this point they have been letting them play. Not today.
There was some nitpicking fouls being called today. As physical as we try to play, they hurt us more than Michigan.

Sure, one can improve. Knecht went from 40% in college to 30% in NBA. Why didn’t he improve? Good thing those other guys have size and strength and can play the whole floor or they not be getting any open looks. Big for nothing is what I’d call Ament. It don’t matter if you’re 6’10 if you get bullied inside 12 feet. There’s that common sense you seek.

NBA 3pt line is also a few feet further back than the college line...

Wagler , Lendeborg, Cenac all above Ament on my board among others
I forgot about Wagler. Nevertheless, I think Nate is in that 2nd tier of prospects. Lendeborg is 4 years older so I could still see Nate going ahead of him. Cenac is a great rebounder but super raw offensively.

A foot and a half. If he hits a whopping 34% !from ncaa three how can anyone expect him to be a spot up shooter in the NBA. Where’s he gonna score from other than the line. And if he has to go to the line a bunch he’s gonna stay most the season. I like the guy but he’s textbook case of not ready.

Tennessee shot 20 more FGs than Michigan.

Michigan made 5 more FGs than Tennessee.

Mich shot 20 more FTs than Tennessee too.

That hurts my head.
You can take 100 more shots than your opponent and still get out scored if you miss all of them.

The refs today were just not going to allow a physical game, which automatically put Tennessee at a disadvantage.
