The Official #23 Tennessee [6] vs. #3 Michigan [1] Game Thread, 2:15 PM ET, CBS

If Ament is going to be bullied in the NBA, another year of college isn't going to help. That's the thing.

What do you honestly think is going to improve for him vs NBA talent by spending another year playing college talent? Honestly?
I agree from a literal development point college has nothing over NBA. No question. The problem is it’s unknown if he ultimately will be bullied in the NBA. He’s too big of a risk for an 8 figure contract. Before a team invests that money they need to see if he can produce. Don’t call it development just call it he needs to prove his worth. Right now id not draft him top 20. Illinois alone has a half dozen guys more ready to contribute right now at the NBA level. I could probably pull some Serbians off the streets and get more production. Maybe a year from now if he shows he can play with grown men for a full season I’d draft him number one.

Ament needs to prove nothing to the NBA scouts / front offices to be drafted in the top 10-15.

All rookies are a risk. That's why we're seeing college and pro teams grab guys who've played pro in Europe and it's been successful.

In that, Ament should move to Europe for a couple of years, right?

Doesn't that seem absurd rather than be an NBA first round pick?

I have mentioned this before, but I have in-laws here from Michigan who have been giving me hell all day. If the legislature wants to do anything, they should make it so that the people who thought Michigan sucked so much that they had to move here, they should not be able to fly their flag in front of my face.
Ha! You sound like me lol

I am normally hyper critical of Barnes but the defs called some really bad fouls on our post guys and when the freshman came in it broke the doors wide open.

If refs had called the game like last night was and let em play this would have been a lot closer.

We have to get better on O though and a legit two player threat on the wings for us to get past the elite 8.

Can't shoot like we did and beat the 1 seeds..

no. again that's not what I'm saying. we absolutely need to get top players. what I'm saying is we have to invest in the top 10 players that will produce.

if you try and hit a home run you need to hit the home run otherwise if you strike out it will be devastating to the program. you have to evaluate talent better. you can't play with big boy money unless you do it right.
Where did we rank in basketball NIL spending this season?

all of last years lottery picks are averaging at least 10 ppg as rookies except the 7’3 guy. The bulls guy that’s been hurt all year and the big fella from South Carolina. Teams do not waste lottery picks on projects unless your 7’3 280 lbs. There is zero chance Ament scores 10 ppg next season in the NBA. Zero.

Would I go pro if I were Ament? Hell yeah show me the money I’m cool with a couple million. I’d get hurt and chase women no shame no pride. I don’t care about legacy or branding.

The issue is…if he stays, a year from now he could be first overall pick. Thats the thing. Legacy. Prestige. Take money to be comfortable now or wait and year and hope to become a household name. No doubt what I’d do and wouldn’t blame if he did but it’s not so crystal clear when you have an opportunity to possibly be a hundred million dollar man. There’s more to it than just take the money and run.

Actually I’d understand moving to Europe and playing. Or go the Scoot Henderson route. But he capped his potential brand and appeal by doing so which does matter when signing contracts. He’s been a good pro but the NBA is a business and fans remember elite college players. Big players big plays big games all that. I’m ranting now and going down an economics of the game rabbit hole but yeah Ament could gain a lot by playing another year in college.

We disagree. If he goes to the NBA, he's one year closer to the second contract and big money and extends whatever NBA career he has coming by one year and he's one year closer to earning an NBA pension. He's not going to magically extend the "shelf life" of his athletic career by playing another year of college. Knees and legs give out and having them give out AFTER you've obtained a pro sports pension is the goal.

Staying in college based on the HOPE that he'll improve enough to become a top 3 pick is good for no one except UT.

The goal in pro sports is the second contract. The sooner you get there, the sooner you have next level wealth, a better chance at a pension, and the stability of an actual career in sports and not a "you can only practice so much" college restriction.

He's not going to just make a couple million with his rookie deal. Pretty absurd to act like he isn't going in the lottery picks.

So far Ament seems like a skinnier version of Jabari Smith. Smith got picked 3rd overall. We’ll see how badly anyone needs a 6’10” spot up shooter.

Some people need to step away from the keyboard for a day or so. Waaaay too much emotional outbursts. Ament started slow, but grew into a phenomenal freshman player. He was the opposite of a bust.

Yes, Barnes got beat. But we are one of TWO SEC teams the have a three straight year Elite Eights streak. We are in a time of the best consecutive season stretch Tennessee has ever been on and you want to go back to the days of WHAT??!? Tindale? Martin? Or Peterson? Geez.

Be happy with the amount of t of success we are having now. Because when he retires, those will be the biggest shoes to fill out of any men’s basketball hire we have ever had to do.

If you are worthy of a second contact in the NBA. It’s not guaranteed. That second contract could be in Lithuania. If you assume he’s successful and becomes worthy of a lucrative second contract then this makes sense. I totally get your point. It’s just not that simple.

Sure, one can improve. Knecht went from 40% in college to 30% in NBA. Why didn’t he improve? Good thing those other guys have size and strength and can play the whole floor or they not be getting any open looks. Big for nothing is what I’d call Ament. It don’t matter if you’re 6’10 if you get bullied inside 12 feet. There’s that common sense you seek.
If you are comparing a 24 year old DK to a 19 Ament, you don’t have any of the common sense. Not even a comparison…lol.

I completely agree but it's the next step. Ament's draft stock could get lower or higher. He's a high draft pick now.

If he chose to stay, he's introducing questions (Why is he staying?) and doubts (Even he doesn't think he's good enough and ready) in the minds of the NBA.

It's not that easy but it's the next step.

DK had a lot of flash games his rookie year. He also went to one of the most dysfunctional franchises since covid with an old ass Lebron driving the roster and coaching decisions.

Let's not act like DK had a stable front office and locker room to walk into. The thing I hate most is that dumbass from Dallas Nico Harrison backed off his request to add DK to the Luka trade.

I can’t bash this team. Achieved more than I thought. I was honestly hoping for sweet 16.

With that being said, and before you say I’m drinking the kool aid, as much as this team achieved this year, CRB had at least 2 other teams which should have been a final 4 team. Admiral and Grants senior year was final 4 material, DKs team certainly had the makeup as well.

CRB kinda reminds me a little of Johnny Majors. Johnny had the 1990 natty served up on a platter but couldn’t get out of his own way against an inferior Bama team, 9-6 loss. Win that one and we could have won the natty, even with the loss to ND.

Sad to keep saying, but until we get to a final 4 in basketball, we are not a blue blood as our AD recently proclaimed.
Did he really say that? Dang, you gotta win a few things first.

Valid comp. Smith shot 42 from 3 vs Aments 34. That means Ament is like 20 percent more likely to miss his shot than Smith would be. Watching the two play not only was Smith much more physically ready but he was light years ahead as a shooter and way more athletic and useful in transition etc.

We'll see but that's not the goal of any player at his level..... another year of college because I'm not good enough.

If Ament has that mindset, you're right. He's not ready and probably never will be ready.

I'll bet he knows he's got work to do like ANY NBA rookie, even Kobe or Jordan had a lot to learn about the next level when they got there.
They did and he’s going for sure. It was good watching him develop. He seems like a great kid and I wish him the best.

I know today didnt turn out the way we all wanted it to but this was one of my favorite Rick Barnes teams while he has been here. A lot of people including the majority this fanbase didnt think this team would make it out of the 1st weekend. They dug deep and pretty much had to play four teams that had 30+ wins on the season (I know Iowa State had 29 but let's just round up) ...that has never happened in the existence of the NCAA tournament. I am for one extra thankful for this tournament run because it gave my mind sort of an escape from the real world for a couple of weekends and stressing out about my Dad whom was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia a couple of weeks ago. Sports are an escape to help you deal with life through the wins and even losses....and I am thankful for this team.

Go Vols!!

Yeah blue blood is wild to say lol. Idk if I’d consider Michigan a blue blood but they’re going to their 9th FF, Arizona they’re 5th. Illinois has the most tourney wins without a Natty
