The Official 2024 NFL Season Thread

I don’t know why but I got a feeling that we might see Gruden to Dallas

Goodell and the owners gotta make Benson sell the team now right?

Sterling Sharpe getting in the HOF. Short career with 3 all-pro selections and 5 pro bowl selections and his teams were pretty irrelevant. He never got past the divisional round and only 2 playoff appearances.

Funny that Eli doesn't get in first ballot and the Sharpes are the first brothers in. I don't get it, though.

Low standards for NFL.

In general or are you saying just this case? My perception has always been the standard is fairly high.

Al Wilson basically had the same career. 5 PB's, 1 AP, 4 playoff appearances, 1 CCG appearance, and retired at the same age due to injury. I would be surprised if he has ever received a HOF vote.

And just cause I want to make a case for our guy....MLB was stacked in his era. He was going against Ray Lewis, Zach Thomas, and Vilma just in the AFC.

I feel like Wilson might've been the first of the modern MLB's. Slightly less bulky than his peers and would go sideline to sideline with the fastest OLB's.

Eli was never All-Pro, only made 4 Pro Bowl teams. Led league in interceptions three years and never led league in yardage or touchdown throws.

Only thing Eli has got going for him is being a 2 time Super Bowl MVP.

Was barely a top ten QB in his era. Eli will get in but first ballot was never going to happen.

If Joe Namath and Kurt Warner can get in, then just about any half decent QB has a shot. Kurt Warner had two excellent seasons with STL then essentially completely disappeared for 5 years, then had two pretty good, but not great, seasons in Arizona. And Namath - well he got in because he's "Broadway Joe" and did a great job handing off to Emerson Boozer and Matt Snell in the greatest upset in the history of football. Otherwise, career 173 TDs and 220 INTs and 50.1 percent completion. Only two seasons did he have more TDs than INTs.

Yeah, he's got some weaknesses to his resume but Eli is the first 2x SB MVP who wasn't first ballot HOF. It's quite the distinction, especially in his case where he was lights out in both playoff runs. Lot of first ballot guys would trade careers with Eli.

I don't think that Eli is as good as most say. Is he a HoF? For sure, but that's mostly likely due to his family legacy and all in all a slightly above average career. Joe Namath is in for his elite numbers during 65-77, because teams were still mostly run heavy. Kurt Warner is in the hall of fame for being undrafted, winning an NFL MVP award twice, throwing for 32 thousand yards and 200 touchdowns, 4 Pro Bowls in 12 seasons, but did throw 120 interceptions. Those are hall of fame numbers, you know.
