Elander mentioned the other day in a interview that he wanted to keep things as normal as possible for the team (and honestly probably himself) since the change was made so close to the season and that’s why he’s at 3rd. I think the whole “he needs to be in the dugout” thing is way overblown, just me personally. With Elander’s heavy analytical approach, I have no idea. Seems that Bates 4 for 8 in midweek hasn’t earned him any opportunities in SEC play despite playing the position that has been an offensive black hole.
I will say that E doesn’t need to be heads down charting plays like some analyst. He needs to be “heads up” taking in the game and engaging with coaches, players, and….the occasional umpire. He’s the CEO of the program and needs to delegate 3B coaching and play charting to underlings IMHO.
How many coaches in the country do you see throwing stuff and yelling at everyone? This team is young. They have taken on the persona of the coach like our teams in the past did. Vitello=Full of energy, passion and communicated with his players all the time. If it looked like you didn't have his passion to win he let you know about it. Josh=Laid back and I haven't seen him talking to his players hardly at all. Hasn't thrown stuff or thrown a fit yet. Calm, little demeanor and his team shows the same traits. Bad women's basketball team. Men's team did well this year except for today. Terrible baseball team. The stage is now set for a disappointing mediocre football team. That would fall right in line with what UT sports has became.
The bet was placed for 2027… therein lies the patience. Steady as she goes…. Just make the tournament this year. The balance is gravy. How many coaches in the country do you see throwing stuff and yelling at everyone?
CTV was an outlier for that and expecting Elander to be the same way has absolutely no dictation on how the players perform on the field.
I think it goes back to this simple fact: Tony, Elander, Frank etc all bet on this rising sophomore class to take a huge leap and it didn’t happen. Unfortunately for E, he’s taking the blame for it
The head down charting every play bothers me more than him being at 3B coaching. He should have someone else charting the play by play so he can focus on the big picture. They have plenty of folks who can chart plays—just one head coach.Elander mentioned the other day in a interview that he wanted to keep things as normal as possible for the team (and honestly probably himself) since the change was made so close to the season and that’s why he’s at 3rd. I do think he’ll be in the dugout next year though

This^^^. They went to the portal and filled in needs based on the the sophomore class taking the next step and at this point none of them have become the players they need to be. I think we will see a total rebuild of this roster at the end of this season. How many coaches in the country do you see throwing stuff and yelling at everyone?

It’s going to be much harder to recruit now. No CTV and a young coach likely coming off a bad season.This^^^. Have you ever seen a head coach tracking plays during an in game interview? I’ve never and think he’s making a mistake many executives do in the business world. When promoted, there are some less strategic roles or tasks that you have to delegate to a subordinate, so you can focus on more big picture, strategic responsibilities. I don’t think Elander has done that yet, and it’s hurting his game management. That’s fair
I think that’s a pretty common thing for coaches to do and if we were winning no one would care at all.
I’m confident he’ll learn from a lot of his mistakes this year. Just a bad combination of a super young team with a super young coach
I've never managed a college baseball team but I do know that data input is never the best use of a CEO's time.Have you ever seen a head coach tracking plays during an in game interview? Taking into consideration the revenue being poured into the facilities, one would think Danny to have a short leash with Elander. He gave him a chance. If next season the progress is bleak I think he has to make a move for a proven head coach. It’s going to be much harder to recruit now. No CTV and a young coach likely coming off a bad season.
