I feel horrible, why do I actually believe we are anything but a bad to mediocre football team? The season to this point has been a lie. People the best we can hope for is to back door our way into the sec championship every 10 or so years. It's what we are. As much as I hate to admit it to believe anything else is just lying to yourself. Flame if you want but that is the reality, better get used to it, denial of why we wandered in the desert with Kiffen and Dooley. Or maybe I'm just drunk. Regardless the entire conference is laughing at is with good cause. We should apologize for pretending.
Key word is team. i recall 2nd game of the year S.Jones #13,jumping up and down on the sideline trying to be a leader. 3 captains on crutches, walking boots, not being able to play and the end result is no one is stepping up providing the fire... i.e. playing with intensity. IMO, i think the coaches are expecting too much under certain conditions and the real reason of the lack of execution is inexperience. This really shows at DB's and OL more than anywhere else. I did see some intensity last nite on defense, especially with the blitz pkg. but it was more than Warrior could handle,(inexperience), the recievers criss-crossed and curt roper took advantage of a freshman quickly, knowing we were blitzing and forced into man to man coverage. Of course Warrior will learn and be a good, valuable player for UT. Let's call it growing pains. Why was UT on defense ? 4 plays right after kelly was winded from a 50+ yd. run they put in Fils-Aime #27 for one play and while Dobb's had his arm back to pass 27 came by appearing to be taking a hand-off or faking a hand-off and the timing was real bad anyway but 27 hit Dobb's arm with the ball in it knocking the ball forward, (fumble) and SC recovered. Next play while on defense, Evan Berry seemed to get kicked in the face while on a tackle and he was filling in for Abernathy. So that forced Warrior,(3rd string), into the game. 2 plays later SC get's another 7 points. Realistically, the long run by kelly gave us much needed momentum and we were likely headed for a score. When it blew up in our face in such fast pace and because we used 3rd - 4th string players in the process
mistakes were made. They are costly in the SEC. Do we blame someone ? I think it proper to blame the whole damn team and the biggest reason is because they are not a
TEAM. Right before VTech game #19,Taylor made the statement "WGWTFA" and during that game S.Jones added more motivation on the sideline. I viewed it as a winners mentality. That mindset has left this UT team. May of had something to do with the pounding from Bama. Now most of us who had high expectations are depressed, mad, looking to blame, etc.....all negative. It is what it is, which is another way of saying i'm not going to say the truth due to humility, at least in this case. I personaly don't believe that firing coach jones is the answer. I'm sure he has good intent and his heart is in it but excuses are useless. He's the caretaker of UT football and he is at fault, no if,ands,or buts. To salvage this season more than one has got to step up and provide leadership
NOW. Admit your wrongs and your faults and work hard to correct them. We are unwittingly falling behind by not getting our 2nd and 3rd string players some much needed reps. We have to come out of the gate strong and grab leads and the reason we can't do that is because we are not being coached or led properly. These are my opinions and i'm not going too deep but a good coach should realize the problem and it's cause and remedy it ASAP. Talk is cheap. Using terms like resilient, complementary football etc...aren't identifying the underlying problem and i think that problem is the inability to "coach 'em up," and prepare the team for every game on a
CONSISTENT basis. This staff won't fess up !
