The Official #17 vs. #3 Houston Game Thread, 6:00 PM ET, TNT

Re-watched some highlights again this morning and JG might be the best offensive guard at Tennessee since Lofton. He'll never be the defensive menace that ZZ was but his shot is so smooth and his ability in traffic is awesome. Boswell complements him so well because he can expend all that energy on defense so JG can worry about running the offense.

I will take the positives from beating Houston over playing for the championship of a tourney that doesn't mean much. Hope the guys have some effort left for Kansas.
They gave it their all last night. Gonna be hard to duplicate that again today.

I understand the sentiment, but can you recall any games where a CRB team didn’t bring the energy? I think they’re so deep and practice so hard that I always expect max effort. JMO
Good point. Still 3 games in 3 days....whew. Been a long, long time since I was their age so maybe I've just forgotten what it's like to have endless energy? Yeah. That's probably it.

He’s a one and done. The discussion with Ament since we’ve recruited him was that he was lanky. But you can still be a great prospect with that frame just like Durant. He will fill out some at the next level, too.
At this time, he will have to develop his body to be able to compete in the NBA. He may not be at Tennessee next year, but , unless he toughens up this year, he will not be in the NBA next year.

I was just responding to you suggesting we knew the rules and some complaining. Yes, it’s a poor way to pay two teams $1 million and $300k respectively. Poor processes get criticized.
Barnes got what he wanted in this tournamen. He beat the #2-3 ranked team in the Nation and gave a warning to the SEC of what is in the future.

Boswell has surprised me so far this year. He will get a lot of playing time and will be able to score some points in addition to his defense.

Jabari Smith and Brandon Miller were 2 1&done similar to Ament and it seems like IIRC Tennessee’s tough D caused them problems also. Maybe the concern over Ament’s age/development is a bit over the top?

Not picking at you Vonore, as it seems to be the predominant opinion on the forum.

Yep. The “lottery pick needs to stay” mentality is hard to dissuade.

He will be- I promise you. Basketball is not a sport where you need to be huge. Like I said, KD was wiry as a freshman. The game has also changed. At his age, his body will fill out with continued strength and conditioning. There are a ton of other recent examples- Zaccharie Risacher was the #1 pick two years ago at 6’9” and 195. Averaged 12 and 3 his rookie year shooting 35.5% from 3. Even Wemby isn’t heavy along with Chet Holmgren.

I just don't think Auburn is a good team this year. They still lost to Houston at the end of the day, and never led a single second in the second half. They took overtime to squeeze one out against a bad Bethune-Cookman team, and are getting slaughtered by Michigan. San Diego State has loss to Troy on their young resume before facing Michigan.
I had already forgotten about the Bethune-Cookman game. They were fortunate to pull that one out

UT fans should create a Go Fund Me to make up the difference. Then it would be cool if the players created a charitable foundation and shared the money with Children’s Hospital or Emerald Youth.
A fund for guys who will earn more in a single year than I did in 40 years of work? Nah.
