The Official #12 Tennessee vs. Gardner-Webb Game Thread, 7:00 PM ET, SEC Network+

Too many new players to critique at this point. A lot of work to do. I see talent but until they start playing team defense it's hard to predict what they can do.

I was confused by Igor who was billed as a 50% 3 point shooter. He has not yet taken a 3 point shot.

Ummm what? A 50% 3 point shooter? He’s a career 36%. Also he did take a three.

It’s the first game with a lot of new pieces, wasn’t gonna be perfect. But this team yet again has final four potential. Will get better as the year progresses

Enjo;yed watching the game. ZZ was business as usual (Bama, y'all can have Sears). The new guys show lots of promise & the inside height is great (Igor!). Anxious to see how CRB develops this young talent. No JJJ, no Vescovi, .no Knecht seems strange, but I'm optimistic..
We whined a lot about the inconsistent play of JJJ and Santiago over the years, but it didn't feel right watching a Tennessee basketball game tonight with them not out there.

When football is good, there isn't much interest or enthusiasm for basketball until football season is over.
TBA is never 10% the environment Neyland is even in the height of basketball season.

It was built to mimic Rupp. Just be as big as possible and forget everything else.

the difference is UK fans actually love basketball while ours see it as a fun football offseason hobby.

That’s an extreme take and unnecessary shot at our fans. When called upon we have some of the best basketball fans in America. GTFO with that take.

Every time we play Kentucky at the SEC tournament, in our own state, we are outnumbered 4-1.

Lots to work on with this new team. Playing connected offensively and defensively going to take longer because of so much inexperience in system but talent is there and we will get there. We had mid twenties lead let up some and ZZ getting outplayed tonight is attention getter and he will be better Saturday. Go Vols. Acts 4:11-12

Carr just looks like one of those players that is just not gonna put it all together and eventually transfers
Unfortunately, I was thinking the same thing tn… I’m so disappointed because I feel he may be better under a different system. His defense needs so much improvement!

Most of the guys who do nothing here and transfer don’t do anything at the next school either. Really the only exception was Burns

Looks like our girls basketball team may just light up the SEC. That's interesting and reason to be enthused.
The jury's still out on our men's team though. And I'm not yet seeing anything to be excited about.

Nice win against a very competitive Gardner Webb squad that played above their pay grade and Lanier had a nice game along with Gainey and Phillips.

We have to rebound the ball better going forward.

Focus and more positional awareness. Practice, practice, and then practice it even more. Rick Barnes' style

Once they leave, I just wish them all the best and leave it at that! I mean, if our system not a good fit, then there’s no hard feelings from me. That opens up room for the right person!

Davonte Gaines, Derrick Walker, and Olivier Nkamhoua did pretty well at their new schools. They started most games. A few vanished. Such as Jalen Johnson. Drew Pember had the most success but at a lower level of competition.
