The Official “Regular Posters of the Basketball Forum” Thread

Tbf someone could make a similar argument about college basketball. In either case, it’s about seeding, and also it’s just fun to watch basketball
College basketball is constantly having a big game feel plus the rivalries and only a small percentage of teams make the postseason. Less than half the number of regular season games makes each game more important by itself. By all means watch as much NBA regular season as you like. I will watch the grass grow and be more entertained.

Wanna hear something ridiculous? Was listening to a talk show in Memphis this morning and they were trying to come up with a list of their top 5 college basketball coaches. Given the local Memphis bias against UT, I wasn’t expecting much. They listed the usual suspects like Pearl, Cal, Self, Izzo, etc. Even mentioned Greg McDermott and Scott Drew. Then they proceeded down the line and named their “next tier”. Named another 10 coaches and Rick was nowhere to be found. Not a mention. Such a joke but I get used to it around this town.

What is the sports stations in Memphis now? I listened to 56 HBQ for years with George Lapides and Jeff 'Gotta loop the ends' Weinberger....Both are deceased now. It got several years ago here in rural West TN where we couldn't pickup 56 am anymore.

“Gotta loop the ends.” That brings back some memories. And Jeff’s back and forth with Miami Dan: “Now you’re just arguing to be arguing.” And George was, less just say, opinionated to the point of being overbearing sometimes. But he knew sports and especially Memphis and SEC sports.

To answer the question, WHBQ is still around and they also have an FM affiliate (I think it’s 98.5). The other is FM 92.9 ESPN starting at 10:00 am with local guys. Word of advice- 11 to 2 is nothing but shameless shilling for the U of M. All are hard to pick up outside of Shelby County but you can stream them.
