, I thought I'd let my mind wander on through text, hope y'all don't mind
There's one thing that no one can really argue and that is the fact that technology has been changing at an exponential rate. Think back to early man, where maybe every couple hundred years there would be a big break through in technology, for instance the bronze age, or the early attempts at plumbing and irrigation. For the most part technology remained the same with changes coming very gradually.
Now think about the past one hundred years.... again technology is changing at an exponential rate. 100 years ago the car was just becoming popular... now we have every variety of cars, airplanes and spaceships. Even think about the past 20 years and how the internet has developed and evolved. What will the internet be like in another twenty years?? One can only imagine. The only constant in the world is change...
Anyway, now think about the purpose of the human race...at the most basic level, our goal is to survive and to reproduce. Thats it - everything else has been created to ease this process, or in some cases to protect this process.
So, how can we guarantee our survival? Well, human tissue may only stay healthy for so long, but metals tend to have a much longer life span. We have already integrated machines into human beings in the form of pacemakers or devices that allow the blind to have a sense of vision. What happens when we take this to the next level? Lets say you have a bad heart...well how about a mechanical heart that will never fail... and if it does start to fail, it can simply be repaired.
The process starts small with devices such as pacemakers, but i'd imagine down the road we could integrate larger devices to replace or compliment faulty organs. That would be the beginning of our evolution to the next level of man. A species that could never die (except for self destruction, or the destruction of earth) and would hardly rely on natural resources. No need to eat if your getting your energy from solar power or something of the sort...
This can also be said for bio-engineering, which seems to be the better choice now that I think about it. Maybe genetic engeneering will be the next step, then we'll follow with the metallic parts. We have to be very careful though because changing genes can have negative effects and usually does ie. cancer. i think we will need a super computer that can accurately replicate the human body down to sub cellular levels then modifications to the genome can be made and the effects can be mapped potentially to the end of life. .... wow where did that idea come from. I swear to all that's great, if we had stoner scientists we would already be colonizing space, the shuttle would be held together with duct tape and the rations would consist of brownies and cookies but we would get there

It's an interesting idea and I know it sounds crazy, but imagine what state our technology will be at 100 years from now. The level the internet is at today was unimaginable twenty years ago, but its here today and we are only moving forward. Anyway, just something to think about. Hope I didn't make anyone lose any IQ by reading this.
