With the growing number of states who are legalizing sports betting the NCAA may force schools to release uniform injury reports. In response to the growing number of states who have legalized sports gambling or will legalize it very soon the NCAA gambling working group will propose the first ever standardized national player availability report for college sports. I'm all for schools having to release injury reports for all the major sports,it will be a good thing to know.

Why in the world would the NCAA force schools to do something to placate sportsbooks/bettors? What does the NCAA have to gain from that?

You do realize that the NCAA (or NCAA schools) are under investigation by the FBI? You do realize that there is the potential for corruption due to gambling that could affect the outcome or swing point spreads?

Are you really asking why the NCAA is being proactive about this right now?

The NCAA isn't, some schools are.

I don't know why the NCAA would feel compelled to have the schools release injury information, for any reason. I think they'd be more worried about FERPA/HIIPA implications than gambling. What is the NCAA having the schools release injury info supposed to achieve? Make gambling seem more "legit" and above board? I don't understand your point.
