I tuned into WNML tonight at 6pm to listen to the The Nation wth Chris Lowe and Austin Price.
It’s supposedly an hour long show about UT football.
But they spent most of the time talking about other SEC teams.
When they did talk Vols, they said that if we couldn’t generate a pass rush against ETSU, that SEC QBs will tear us apart. Offensively, they said we only have one quality offensive lineman and we just won’t have a rushing attack against SEC defenses.
I’m not saying they were wrong.
But, for their audience of Vol fans, it was damn depressing.
Lowe did say he thinks Pruitt knows what’s he’s doing. Just said the talent isn’t there yet.

They are right.
The score yesterday was deceiving. 414 Yards of total offense. Horrible on 3rd down. Outright embarrassing in the 1st quarter.

IF all of this is true then the Knox County Rescue Squad needs to go ahead and stage a couple of boats around the clock under the Gay Street Bridge.

They also said we have a 5 star tackle committed and need to hold onto and we have another considering us. I have listened to them for years and they both really like UT, but what is the old saying about lipstick on a pig.

I think we all know this already, right?

Would you have rather they be talking about handing out East Tennessee Champions rings?

Sounds like they were talking SEC & SEC East Football. Tennessee is not in that conversation, yet.

We are in perpetual rebuilding it seems every year now. Other teams seem to be able to rebuild in 3-5 years, we aim to rebuild indefinitely.

I listened to the first half. Was spot on IMO. I think the liberal arts school Mars Hill got more sacks and QB hurries than we did. Sad

Jonathon Kongbo and Kyle Phillips should be embarrassed by their performances. If you can't outplay an olineman with 1/2 the physical gifts that you possess then no amount of coaching will help you

Yep, not much to be said. Straight garbage just like the titans. Beating up a jv team doesnt change reality

Yeah I just think we have some players who aren’t good or should be playing FCS/mid American conf.

I'm afraid they are correct, especially until the Vols actually play an SEC team and prove otherwise.
This may possibly be the worst Oline in the SEC for many many years prior, only time will tell where their place in history falls.

Still, considering recruiting the past 3-4 years, you would never expect the Vols to be in this bad of shape with the Oline, go figure.

Go Vols

The truth lies somewhere in the middle of our great performance Saturday with plenty of playing time for non starters and the talking heads on the Nation.

From what I heard the Nation didn’t really say anything we don’t already know. We have bad line play on both sides that needs to get better if we want to win in the sec. if we don’t improve, we will likely not win many, if any games in the sec

It’s just hard for me to fathom how far our program has fallen.
List of NCAA football teams by wins - Wikipedia
We've got the history, tradition and platform to be top level...unfortunately, we've also got the ability to not be very good for long periods of time. I grew up in the mid 70's, early 80's, and didn't know any better than getting beat every third Saturday in October, with an occasional Blue Bonnet Bowl or Liberty Bowl at the end of the year. That's why Sugar Vols were so special.

Our last 10 years of losing need to fade, or we run the risk of being a team like Ole Miss or Ark, who were good, "back in the day", and scares second or third place in their SEC division every so often. I think Pruitt, w/ Fulmer's support will get there.

While I'm at it, I like Fulmer, but seems he's always got to get some sort of "dig" in...when they interviewed him during the game, does he really need to state the obvious and say "he really wished we could have punched in a touchdown instead of a field goal".

I just think Phil is the consummate coach and of course he's going to say that....heck...I wished we had punched it in too..Thats just COACH PHIL FULMER...as far as Lowe saying those things about the Vols...I think he's stating the obvious that most in and around the program understood from day one...to echo..CJP is telling recruits it going to be rough...and its going to be rough this year....

They are just telling the unvarnished truth. Our offensive line is crap, and our pass rush is crap. SEC teams are going to kill us. We'll be lucky to win 4 games and get an SEC win. I admire them for not lying and playing the tune all the sunshine pumper sheep want to hear, after a win against a pathetic juco team like ETSU.

It most likely is true. I don’t think enhanced rescue squad activity is necessary though. Any fans deluded enough to believe our line play would be sufficient to win a lot this year were brought to reality in a rude way last weekend. It should be plain as day that we have gaping holes in talent relative to our conference on the lines and in the secondary. There’s no quick fix for that.

Few if any around here have more muted expectations than I, but I feel pretty positive about the early results. The two things that I find most promising:

1. Pruitt's sideline demeanor. He does get after the players, but he seems comfortable in the environment, unlike Mullen, who looked somewhat confused or perhaps stunned at times.
2. The players have a more imposing look about them than those of the last few seasons, but maybe I am just seeing what I was hoping against all hope to witness. Anyway, this week minimize injuries!
